Places that are special to you.

Gettysburg Pennsylvania. I love the Battlefield Park. My first visit to the park started my love for Civil War history.

Westmoreland State Park in Virginia. I love staying in the cabins built by the CCC in the 30's and 40's. It is like a second home where I can leave the worries of my life behind.

The Tularosa Basin (White Sands and Alamogordo) in New Mexico. The silhouette of the Sacromentos against the sky is seared in my brain. That silhouette is one of my earliest memories of a place that I have called home in the past.

I'll add more to my list.

1. DC's Wisconsin Ave from Tenleytown to Georgetown-where I spent a lot of time with my fiancee last semester.

2. the C&O canal in MD/DC.

3. The Berkshires and the White Mountains

1. Larkspur, California. Even though I was a pretty unhappy kid, I grew up in a beautiful town, in a strange and wonderful house, in an open-minded and stimulating place. I love Marin County, and if I ever win a bazillion dollars, I'll move back.

2. Castine, Maine. I spent several summers there, as a small child. I think I was 8 or 9 the last time I was there. It was really a stunningly beautiful place--the New England that exists only in Robert Frost poems or a Currier & Ives picture. I've heard it's been Yuppie-fied in recent years, but I'd still like to see it again.
