I'm not quite sure if this is meant more as a gag project or a serious movie, but I got a Futurama vibe off it.

I'm not quite sure if this is meant more as a gag project or a serious movie, but I got a Futurama vibe off it.

That's because the movie is a rip-off of a season 4 Futurama episode called "anthology of interests II". In that episode, President Nixon screws up a peace deal with planet Nintenduu 64 and they attack Earth in the form of a video game, including space invaders and pac-man.

The movie looks like it might be a fun romp with lots of nostalgic winks if you grew up with these video games. I doubt the movie is meant to be taken seriously. Rather, the movie seems to be a parody of alien invasion movies like Independence Day with "homages" to ghostbusters and of course 80's arcade games.

I usually hate Adam Sandler, but I have to admit, this actually looks like it could be kind of fun.
