Pixar's one class act.

I read that earlier. Class move, Pixar.

Still, it breaks my heart reading about that little girl. If we could all leave this world with as much grace and humility, the world would be a much better place. God bless her. :(

I hadn't read the whole article, the girl couldn't even open her eyes to watch it and had to have her mother describe it to her, man that's crazy sad.

That's a very humbling and touching story - I wish, if people insist on sending me "inspirational" e-mails that they were of this sort. And, hey, I had to pass it along to people I knew.

My big question is about the thread title: "Pixar's one class act?" It makes it seem like the OP doesn't think very highly of Pixar and that this is the only time they've demonstrated any class. I don't know the crew at Pixar, but the impression I've always gotten from them is that they're a group of very motivated, committed and humble people, with very big hearts; this story, to me, is only an affirmation of that culture, rather than an aberration.

EDIT: Ahhh, I see now - "Pixar is one class act," not the possessive form :). Thanks, Sheep!

Mentally substitute "Pixar's a class act" if you'd like, because that's what I was intending it to convey. :)

The cynic in me immediately smells PR stunt but the Pixar fan and human being just smiles.

From what i know of Pixar and the heart those movies exhibit i believe that they are just good people who did something for a young fan without eying good PR or expecting anything than a smile on her face as she watches the movie.

The fact that they declined comment makes me think they're not after the positive PR.

I think the people behind Pixar are good people. They're in it because they love it, not because they're egomaniacs or out for a quick buck.

Wow, really impressed. I always knew Pixar had some good left in them.

What do you mean by this? I have always been impressed by Pixar and Lassiter. They always seemed to be good people who have a lot of heart.

Ptrope, you know the 's can mean both an abbreviation for "is" as well as showing ownership. In this case, I read it as "Pixar is one class act" and wonder why you'd be reading something negative into this when it's otherwise been completely positive?

^^

I suppose it's a combination of dialect and board cynicism ;). When I read it as written, the "one" modifies "act" rather than "Pixar," and I questioned that of all the things they've done and said, anyone would consider any act of theirs less than class. To say, "Pixar is one class act," sounds, to me, a bit old-fashioned, like the dialogue in films from the '40s and '50s; no real rational reason for it - that's just how it sounds in my head. And on this board, and the media in general, we've become so used to seeing success rewarded with cynicism that it's easy for me to expect that some might blame Pixar for being so consistently successful and look for ways to 'take them down a peg or two' - we see this all the time around us, that some people and organizations are simply too good to be true and thus must be harboring some darkness, so that, occasionally, we must grudgingly accept that one thing they did was actually so good it couldn't be dismissed. Heck, even in this thread, the question was raised as to Pixar's motivation possibly being a self-serving PR ploy.

It's all about perception, and sometimes, we don't see the obvious - as I didn't with the contraction. :)
