Pixar's Newt Canceled replaced by Monsters Inc 2?

Toy Story 3 comes out this summer, and deals with the toys being dumped in a nursery school when Andy goes off to college.

First I've heard of that...I remember, there was a thing about the (first) Toy Story sequel a few years back, about how Disney was goin' to make it without Pixar, it was goin' to be direct to video, traditional animation feature or something retarded like that.

Disney is one fucked up company.

I think the whole reason why Pixar was sold to Disney is so they could keep more control over their movies and not have Disney make Toy Story 26 where the toys travel through time back to the Ice Age.

I'd actually like to see that one!:techman:

Two items:

One, i read recently that 1906 is having problems and may not make it into production. Here is a link:

Two, I think it is very funny the opinions that people have about which Pixar films are at the bottom of the pile. Most often I hear Bug's Life and Cars listed, but not infrequently do I hear people say Incredibles, Wall-E, Ratatouille, or even UP. To me those movies could never be considered their worst ones.

I know it is true for the internet in general that no matter how great something is, there will always be a segment of the population that perceives it as trash (and the opposite). I was under the impression that Pixar's high standards have created a set of pictures that everyone agrees are not their worst and thus a smaller set that everyone can agree are their worst, but the internet has once again proven that tastes vary (perhaps even beyond reason).

Am I the only person here who really enjoyed Cars? Granted, it might has well have been called Doc Hollywood, but it was still a lot of fun.

I'm probably the biggest fan of "Monsters Inc." here. I think it's better than "Wall-E", "Finding Nemo", "Ratatouille", and "The Incredibles" and second only to the first "Toy Story" movies, but even I don't think it needs a sequel.

You're not the only one. :) I went to see it with my cousin in the theaters and I really liked it. I still do, and I like looking for things I missed on the first go-round. Pixar puts in a lot of in-jokes and it's fun to find them.

I like MI, it's the only Pixar movie I own (It's VHS even), but there is no need for another one!

My problem isn't "This one is better than this one" and what not, it's none of the Pixar movies need sequels, they are so well made then stand on their own perfectly.

cars was allright, Wall-E sucked horribly Pixar's worst imo, followed by UP, but I commend them for the darker tone that UP had, was Ratattoulie Pixar? i have never even had the desire to see it, loved all the others, though, and as for MI2...WHY? with Toy Story and TS2 the stories were simple and worked fairly organicaly, it seems they would have to stretch to come up with another "adventure"

I like Cars too, so does my finace. When it came out, I was amazed that so many people disliked it.

My problem with Cars is that it feels like a normal pandering kids movie, albeit one with gorgeous CGI. It doesn't feel like a Pixar movie with a sense of fun and adventure and originality, it was more about beating a saccharine moral over the heads of kids. Not to mention the fact that the majority of the movie takes place in a podunk town without any real action.

Cars was great the first 563 times I saw it. After that, it lost a bit of its shine. The only Pixar movie I didn't really care for was A Bug's Life. Even the kids had trouble with it (the grasshoppers scared them so badly that even now they won't watch it). But, while we are looking forward to seeing TS 3, I don't see why Cars, MI, or Incredibles needs a sequel.

I love Cars, my 6 year old and I have watched it about a thousand times. He has quite a Cars toy collection as well. I look forward to a sequel, if done well, and with Pixar I know it will be.

Yeah, it was a nice self-contained story. The change of how they made money from screams to laughter made the story come full circle. They also no longer fear kids. There's little reason for the two monsters to have another adventure. I'm sure they think they can find another idea, but it's beyond unnecessary. They should just come up with new characters who are equally as likable, but don't exist inside a Universe created to tell a story that was already told.

I liked Cars fine enough. It was an enjoyable movie, pretty to look at, but I guess my adult mind could wrap around how a world centered around cars "evolved" or how such a society works and thrives. ;)

But it was good enough movie and, per my list above, "Up" was Pixar's "worst" movie of the ones I've seen. Which, something has to be last. Up wasn't one I enjoyed a whole lot.

Pixar was going to make TS2 themselves, but it was going to be direct to video. Disney saw the early work and thought it theatrical worthy and gave Pixar the extra cash to spiff it up.

TS3 was being done by Disney themselves before the merger, as soon as Lasseter got himself in position he got control back over to Pixar.
