Pirates of the Caribbean 4 News

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I actually liked the sequels, too (for the most part), I just don't think the story they came up with needed to be stretched out across two movies. I would have preferred two separate standalone (or mostly standalone) adventures.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

What I dislike about the second movie is that it doesn't really seem to be about anything. Things happen and then have no consequence on the rest of the movie. We spend about a half an hour on the cannibal island and the only thing we get out of that is Orlando Bloom's character meeting up with the crew of the Black Pearl again. The movie doesn't seem to really get going until it's halfway over and then it ends on a cliffhanger. It's entertaining but it adds up to very little.

I liked the third one more because it did seem to be adding up to something, namely the big battle at the end with the pirates facing off against the evil company or whoever the old stuffy bad guy was in that movie (been a while since I saw it). There were still some odd tangents (why was Chow Yun-Fat in this movie?) that ended in disappointment, but overall it had a stronger story.

Definitely flawed movies but I liked them. And I'm not sure the first film was any less flawed than those that followed it, frankly.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I'm another big fan of the sequels (in fact I'd consider all three of them to be some of my favorite movies), but at the same time, I'm happy to hear they're doing stand alones. I don't know why, but that just seems like it would work better for the series. I just hope some of the other characters, like Gibbs and Barbossa, and maybe some characters from OST, depending on how the movie turns out of course, stick around.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I liked all three of them, I hope the 4th one will be just as fun.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I didn't care for the last two, overall. But it had little to do with the characters; the story was all over the place and unfocused.

I am looking forward to this new one as it seems like it is going to be toned down with a fresh start. I also like the feeling that this will be squarely Jack's story, whereas the prior films felt like they were mainly about Will/Elizabeth.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I'm not so sure that Jack as a focus character is necessarily a good idea. I'd be concerned about overexposure.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

To be fair, as noted above the earlier three movies were arguably more Will/Elizabeth's story than they were Jack's. While he was obviously a pivotal character, the story wasn't his arc.

I feel the same way about Batman in The Dark Knight Rises. They really should let Gordon take the lead this time out. ;)

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

It's more that while I can enjoy watching a "wacky hijinks" character make things more interesting for the other characters, I don't necessarily like watching a movie where the plot revolves around them.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

Yeah the 4th one is coming out(looks good) and from what I have heard the 5th is already in production.

Disneyland to premiere Pirates of the Caribbean 4 May 7

Disneyland has announced they will hold the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere on May 7, 2011. It will be the first showing of the film and it will be shown outdoors in 3D.

All of the stars of the film will be in attendance as well as what will certainly be a host of Hollywood A-listers. Joining the cast of Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow), Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa), wil be Penelope Cruz (Angelica), and Ian McShane (Blackbeard).

It promises to be quite an event and the price is indicative of that. Tickets are now available for a hefty $1,000 apiece.

Some great sequences in DMC that make the movie for me, but AWE was overblown, with the whole Calypso/whirlpool bit.

As for more movies, hm. Puts a bit of a crimp in m'style. How many can the basic formula sustain, is the real question.

Hey guys! It's great to see everyone talking about OST! I work with Disney and am eager to hear more about what you all think. Is there anything you are looking forward to most?

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

^ How Captain Jack will be introduced, nothing has toped his first apearance on the dingy, but I have a feeling this time will be pretty good. I also wanna see a lizard run by Jack, don't know if it will happen or not. Also, we havent seen the compass in the trailers, I wonder if it will be in use. Other than that I'm looking foward to Blackbeard and Penelope Cruz. I just want to see Jack bieng Jack. POTC is one of my favorite film franchises, I'm actually writing a paper for my English class about POTC franchise. I'm a little weary about there bieng two more movies, but as long as they don't overload them with too many characters and subplots i'll be fine. Just keep it simple like the first one was and this one looks to be and I have no problem wathing these movies. Honestly though, I will watch them no matter what anyway, but I want to see quality, not quantity.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Trailer released

I think I'm most excited for Jack, Ian McShane as Blackbeard (which is absolutely brilliant casting IMO), Penelope Cruz, the zombies and the mermaids. I'm also very curious about the movie's version of The Fountain of Youth.

Seriously?
If so what I'm looking forward to the most is what will NOT be there. That being Will and Elizabeth.

Despite owning all 3 movies I can't tell you the last time I watched the two sequels. They were bogged down too much. Black Pearl worked so well cause it told one story that the sequels then expanded parts of into something more that was never intended.

I hope OST is a great stand alone story that gets a sequel that is also a unique stand alone story. At best gives nods to something from a prior movie. POTC should be done like Bond or Indiana Jones not like Bourne or Terminator where it's an arcing story all interconnected with subtext.

'Pirates 5' Script Delivered to Disney But Johnny Depp Wants to 'Hold Off for a Bit'

Rossio tells THR that the still-untitled script -- his first penned without Ted Elliot, who collaborated on the first four Pirates scripts -- was delivered to Disney this past weekend. It's the initial step in putting together the key creative pieces for another Pirates film. Disney would like another installment, given the $3 billion in worldwide grosses for the first three films and the likely huge returns for the fourth movie, the first to be released in 3D.

In an interview published in the current issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine, Depp says he hasn't seen the new Rossio screenplay but he isn't opposed to reprising his iconic Jack Sparrow character yet again.

"It boils down to story, script and filmmaker," Depp tells THR. But the actor isn't clamoring to jump back into the puffy shirt until a little time has passed after Pirates 4. He didn't relish the brutal schedule that saw him making Pirates 2 and Pirates 3 back-to-back in order to meet studio-mandated release dates in summer 2006 and 2007, respectively.

"It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,'" he says. "We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me."
