Pint's a Pound the World Around?

I'm British and I've never heard of it.

Me neither. And where can you get a pint for a pound these days, anyway ?

Well, I think I first encountered it in an episode of "Are You Being Served?" which was filmed around 1970...

A pint was around 50p when I started drinking. And that was in the early '80s! A fiver went a long way...

The mnemonic is meant to help you remember that both a pint and a pound are equal to 16 ounces -- a pint being 16 ounces of volume and a pound 16 ounces of weight. That's how I learned it.

I believe this is the case. Although I feel that pints and pounds are related in that a pint of water is approximately a pound (although I could be wrong about that).

I learned this in grade school in 1988. I thought everyone knew this.
