pilot season 09-10

May will soon be upon us, and with it, pilot season 09-10.

Handicapping the most likely pilots.

A few interesting sf/f pilots in the mix - Flash Forward, Day One - nothing yet that makes either stand out for me, but I'm hoping to at least get a chance to look at them. But the one I really want to see is V - great cast. Not on the hot list - yet.

Also interesting:

Happy Town - could be Twin Peaks Lite?

Plus Back, with showkiller extraordinaire Skeet Ulrich. :rommie:

Descriptions of series in development..

I'm hoping Human Target has scifi elements. I've never read the comic, so I really have no idea whether it will or not. But the premise sounds interesting.

Several new pilots came my way recently that the Networks were having Tested to build their upfront schedules...

Flash Forward: This actually was pretty damn good. (Lost meets 24)

House Rules
: Staring Zoe McLellan, This I didn't get to see much of, but from what I did see, and what everyone else was saying about it... this should be another NCIS-type winner for CBS.

Eva Adams:
about a guy who goes to sleep one night and wakes up a woman (Karma's a Bitch). It was hit and miss. James Van Der Beak was in it as the best "friend" *read as* evil manipulating bastard, but I didn't recognize the two main principle actors. Overall, it has potential, if people can get over the odd circumstances of a woman feeling herself up because she's actually a guy.

The only other two things I glanced were sitcoms.

No Heroics: (I'm assuming the US version of the UK series) didn't fare very well amongst people.
Canned: Staring Amanda Bynes, was just awfully awful, I'm hoping they'll spare us this one completely.

Any word on V? I've seen rumors that it tested well with audiences.

Is it my imagination, or is this pilot season even more unimpressive than usual? :wtf:

Anyone remember Rick Springfield's short-lived Human Target TV show? Here's the intro on YouTube.

The star was barely in the show because when he assumed other identities, the other actor just got to play Christopher Chance! Hopefully it won't be that way with Valley, where the audience gets to "see" him even though he's playing someone else.

Marc Berman: Feel-Bad TV

Not surprisingly, the biggest freshman programming theme is reflective of the current economic woes. Vying for a spot on the fall schedule is Canned, an ABC sitcom about a group of people who all get fired on the same day; Little Piggy, another comedy for ABC about a man who returns to the home he grew up in after losing all his money; Two Dollar Beers, a Fox sitcom about a group of young people living in depressed Detroit; and an untitled ABC comedy with Kelsey Grammer as a former Wall Street exec who loses his job and also returns home.

If this does not sound depressing enough, Fox also has a reality/competition series in the works called Someone’s Gotta Go, where the staff at a downsizing firm competes to determine who gets the pink slip. Man, nothing says escapist, feel good fare like reliving job stress on TV after a long, crappy day at the office. Hey, why not watch with the family!
By next fall, these kinds of shows will have no appeal, assuming they have appeal now. The networks had better move quickly and cancel all these types of series - they have crash & burn written all over them.

But a lot of the stuff he talks about isn't necessarily in the same category, especially the sf/f shows, which could be escapist/action-thriller fare and will have nothing to do with the economy.

Where the FCUK is Revolution?!?!?!? :scream::klingon:

Flash Forward and Day One I'll be checking out, but the above seems to have fallen by the wayside, which disappoints to say the least. :(

I'd be surprised if it surfaces. :( I was really rooting for that one to come thru. Even if the pilot sucks, I'd like to at least see it.

Which reminds me, during pilot seasons, don't pilots often get leaked? :D Anyone seen anything on that score? Especially for shows that will never be aired.

So did NBC change it's mind and now not show that UK show Merlin/KingArthur or whatever?
