Pike the hero?

One change...we never saw Chekov until later on in TOS. But that could easily be explained as books or EU are not canon, only really onscreen is...he could have been on the enterprise, assigned elsewhere than tried to get reassigned back on.

We already know that Chekov had been on the Enterprise before we actually saw him, otherwise he wouldn't have met Khan in "Space Seed" ...

My real problem with Chekov in XI is that he is supposed to be a lot younger than the rest of the main TOS crew. There is no way he would be serving under Pike as a bridge officer while Kirk is still a Cadet!

Well, I've never been 100% married to canon in one way or another. And neither should any trek fan TBH.

If you think about it, how many times has trek broken its own canon witha simple 10 seconds of onscreen dialogue?

Canon's broken as is.

I'm happy with ignoring past happenings and all to let this new one coem in. As for those that argue about this ruining your childhood...your childhoods still there...go buy the dvd's.

Assuming that there will be a sequel, I would like for Bruce Greenwood aka Pike to stick around.

Have him be a hero, sure, but keep him alive. Promote him to admiral or something.

Like I mentioned in the Trek XI news thread, I have a strong suspicion he will be. It makes sense, since Pike has to clear the way for Kirk. I mean, J.J. could have bypassed Pike by making him a footnote in the movie, but he seems to have made Pike a formative character, so I get the feeling that Pike will have a major role in this movie. I, for one, will be glad, as Bruce Greenwood's Pike makes me really want to see this man be a hero.

I'm trying to picture him as the original Pike and failing. but what I see in him in the trailers looks goooooood!!

I think it'll shock everyone when Kirk dies and the movie ends with Pike in the chair.

Nah.

Pike, Kirk, and Spock all die, and Uhura ends up in the center seat. (Scotty is passed over because he thinks of catastrophic danger as "exciting".)
