Pike is back

I am so stoked to hear that Capt. Pike will return in the new movie. He has always been a favorite charater of mine!

I always wanted to see Captain Garrovick, myself. The irony of this post is only becoming obvious to me now as I type it and look up at the poster's name.

Me too. Hope they don't kill him off - Pike has a very specific destiny ahead of him that's very central to his character. It'd be a shame to lose that.

And the best thing: He's played by Bruce Greenwood! I know no-one I would rather like to see as Chirs Pike. :techman:

Lol. How very astute of you. I agree with you and hope there is a teaser homage to Captain Garrovick as well.

Ray Liotta absolutely should have been Pike. Badass enough to be this Robau, but can still laugh at his Vulcan Lt in that special GOODFELLAS way.

Agreed. It's a pretty awesome aspect to this new movie imo. Other creative teams given the brief to make a Star Trek prequel would have left Pike out altogether, or just reduced him to some fleeting footnote, but JJ & Co. decided not to do that, but to make a pivotal, if not major character.

It oozes awesome.

I really like Liotta. And he could actually win a Jeffrey Hunter lookalike contest. But I think Greenwood is the better actor. He just has this Chris Pike vibe going for him. :)

Don't know if anybody remembers or cares, but Greenwood has already played this part ... in THE CORE. Might be the first time I ever saw him play something other than a total asshole (know him from ST ELSEWHERE, some movie with a Judd in it and the last season of LARRY SANDERS SHOW, in which he played utter scumbags.)

I loved Greenwood in The Core. He was also really good as Kennedy in Thirteen Days.

Hopefully, if J.J. Abrams does another ST movie, we'll have some more Pike flashback scenes. Hell, I hope if they ever do another ST show, it should center around Captain Pike, and do a "prequel series" worthy of the name! -- RR

I wish they would have put Captain Garrovick in the movie itself. As to who should have played the part? Right here. ;)

Pike played by Greenwood is like in the top three reasons I want to see this movie, now. If there's anyone with the voice of Starfleet captain, it's Greenwood.

I like Greenwood a lot. His voice is notable, powerful. The new trailer is evidence of how well he can use it to play an emotional moment.

You all mentioned some good parts for him, including Thirteen Days. I also liked him as the believable head of the robotics company in I, Robot

That's a great idea right there..

I love this line Pike has in the new preview:

"Your father was a starship captain for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives, including yours. I dare you to do better."

Yeah, I like that, too. His delivery is perfect. I love the little nod of his head when he says that. Actually I don't know why.

But I like this line from the other trailer more, because I feel it could somehow refer to Pike's conversation with Dr. Boyce in The Cage ...
You can settle for less in ordinary life, or do you feel like you were meant for something better? Something special.

I think the little nod of his head works, because he does it as he says "12 minutes," knowing that, under most circumstances, being a captain for such a short time is absurd and hardly enough time on which to create a legacy. In essence his nod is driving his point home, how great George was as captain
