Picard's Perfect Mate

Who is the perfect mate for Picard?

Thanks for the internet dictionary definition - I favour Oxford, Macquarie and Webster, but to each her own.

I don't think it assists your essential argument, but then again, this is all a matter of opinion. But at least no one can doubt which corner you are fighting for - good for you.

Thank you. I keep a Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary on my desk for writing and the definition for the term mate was essentially the same. However, the online dictionary was more convenient for an online discussion such as this. TheFreeDictionary's general English dictionary main source is the American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition.

You fail to mention in your post any significant differences in definition from those other sources. ;)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

No WN, what I said was: "I don't think it assists your essential argument, but then again, this is all a matter of opinion. But at least no one can doubt which corner you are fighting for - good for you."

I don't need to rely upon your limited dictionary definitions to support my argument. That was the essential message of my post to you. That you feel the need to do so is "reaching" but as I said "to each her own."

BTW, like the stories, but I'm not willing - as you appear to be - to twist canon so as it ends up mirroring one's own preferred universe (especially as WN's preferred universe is quite nicely flourishing).

Hasn't anyone considered the fact that all of her compatibility with Picard was completely manufactured? .... /QUOTE]

This is interesting. If a relationship based on imprinting isn’t real, would one based on propinquity (Beverly Crusher), or thrill-seeking (Vash) be any more real?

Of course, being male, I’ll take it anyway I can get it.

Picard really doesn't suit Beverly IMO. Vash does. Beverly works better as a friend with a certain amount of passed regrets.

I guess that explains the pro wrestler named Kamala - he was a stereotype of a savage tribesman, who wore a skirt and freaky paint all over his face and upper body.

OMG! Now those were the days, when you had the most horrific stereotypes promoted in the WWF. Way off topic, I know. -- RR

For a booty call I would say Vash
For mate I would say Crusher "even though that would be weird because of the relationship he had with her dead husband"

Tough call... it's to Patrick Stewart's credit that he was able to have pretty good chemistry with just about all of those women (though not necessarily in a romantic way for some).

Beverly -- I think they made great friends, and there was definitely an undercurrent of attraction there. I wouldn't have minded if they became a couple by the last time we saw them, but at the same time, I'm kind of glad they resisted that idea. I kind of like that they are friends, and always will be (which is why I'm irked that they cut their goodbye scene from the end of Nemesis... One of the many things done wrong in that movie).

Vash -- I liked the two of them together; it was definitely a case of opposites attracting, and I think it worked quite well. I feel that she probably wouldn't be an ideal choice for his life partner though -- she's just too different (i.e. reckless and criminal) for that. I believe Vash works best as a recurring fling... a friend with benefits, if you will.

Phillipa Louvois -- Picard had chemistry with her too. I liked their banter, and the implied history between the two of them was intriguing. She performed her duty well, was tough but fair, and seemed to have a good head on her shoulders, which I think makes her a good match for Picard. It was too bad we only saw her once, but I think she made a fairly strong impression regardless, so I'm going to vote for her.

Others might work too: Picard's relationship with Neela Darren was interesting and mostly believable, I can see how Anij would appeal to his thoughtful side... and I'm probably one of the few fans that didn't even mind his relationship with Jenice Manheim.

In the end, though, I'm sticking with Phillipa Louvois. :techman:

I vote for Beverly Crusher any day. The other women might have been in love with picard, or very attracted to him (and vica versa); but they were all based on lust and passion; Crusher and Picard have been friends for so long; if anyone could connect in the long term it would be them.
