Picard's Jacket

Smiley

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I was wondering what people here thought about Picard's red jacket that he wore over his gray uniform starting in Season 5. I'll post my thoughts later so as not to influence the poll.

Definitely liked it. Thought it was a good move away from pyjamas and into something more functional/practical like the late 23rd century uniforms.

I honestly really liked the jacket. But I didn't like to overanalyze it too much because as mentioned above the shoulder do look a little rubbery.

I liked the Jacket itself but I wasnt wild about the gray uniform. I think Stewart (and I say this as a straight male mind you) would have looked excellent in a black turtle neck type shirt with the Jacket over it. Maybe even tuck the pants into the shoes... Or did he do that with the jacket variation and I just cant remember?

Liked it but not on its first appearance - I think they improved the look of it significantly, or at least lit it differently later on.

My friend Frank liked it so much he begged my wife to make one for him. She did (and got so sick of wathcing Darmok for reference she never wants to see the episode ever again  ).

Frank wore it to a con once and Majel Barret complimented it as one of the best ones she'd seen so far.

Apparently, I'm in the minority on this matter. I appreciate the practicality of it for off-duty times or away team duty, but it's a little too informal and unprofessional to me for the captain of the Enterprise to wear on the bridge. It looks like he forgot to zip his clothes up after getting dragged out of bed.

I liked it. A welcome variation.

On a side note, I've always wondered whether the gray uniform underneath the vest was what eventually lead to--or at least inspired--the FC uniforms.

Liked the idea--like Kirk's wrap-around, it set him apart from the others in the crew. Felt it needed more work, though, and dind't much care for the grey shirt he wore underneath--too much like Wesley's acting ensing togs.

As an aside I thought it was interesting how Ensign Ro could remove her uniform top via a center seam that appeared in the episode which had her name as the title.

Picard's jacket...was ok, I think it seemed to be one of those semi-casual yet formal measures.

The idea was that that was where all the uniforms undid with one of Roddenberry's 'futuristic fastenings', and we were supposed to pretend we couldn't see the zips down the back. It was a silly idea really, especially since the later series made the front zips pretty obvious.

Which ones? I don't remember any Trek uniforms being very practical. :p
