Picard: Status of the Enterprise?

Thank you for understanding my question. I would believe so as well as you mentioned about the episode "Relics", there's also a moment in the episode "Starship Mine" where Picard on the bridge of the Enterprise, alone, touches the tactical railing - mesmerized by how beautiful it was. It expressed to me how much he loved the Enterprise and was damn proud to be in command of her.
Every captain worth his or her rank insignia has a moment like that with their vessel. I think they'd be a pretty poor captain if they didn't.

With all these cameo PoP uPs throughout these Star Trek: Picard previews, I'm sure the Enterprise, in some form, will make an appearance. I was wondering which vessel does Picard deem more; it seemed to me he had a fondness for both the Galaxy Class and the ugly looking 1701-E?

I think the E looks much more elegant and impressive than the D (which looks much better than the C).
Definitely agree, I much prefer the design of the E. I've always thought the D's giant saucer was kind of awkward looking. I like the smaller, more streamlined E saucer a lot better. And yes, I know how streamlined something is doesn't make a difference in space, I just think it looks better.

You know I thought the same way about the saucer. Just didn’t feel proportionate to the secondary hull. Although I don’t like the fact it doesn’t have a neck. Which is why my second favorite starship (sovereign class is first) Is the excelsior class (both versions). Ever since I got a rough version of the excelsior’s deck plans I have been looking at the design more closely.

I suspect Picard has more fondness for the D, going from his discussion with Scotty in Relics (your first ship is the one you remember best). Furthermore, the average TNG fan is probably more attached to the D than the E.
^^^
I doubt it as you are forgetting that Picard stated he LOVED the U.S.S. Stargazer (Constellation Class) and preferred it EVEN THOUGH he sated in that same conversation - "In every way, my Enterprise is far superior..."

The Stargazer isn't an option in this discussion. It's between the D and E.

They’re showing the -D because it’s more nostalgic for fans of just the show.

the -E was on display at the museum though, along with the Stargazer

For me, I love the Enterprise so I'm attached to that vessel and the great moments with Picard; TNG for 7 seasons showed how much he loved and honored the Enterprise. It's a visual medium and in the format it is to show not tell, and Patrick Stewart showed how much he admired his ship. With fans, like myself, who loved TNG, and was the most popular Trek series ever during it's aired run would likely favor Picard preferring 1701-D than the ugly E. As for those horrible TNG movies, I recently saw a repackaging of TNG Movies and the E was no where insight of the art work. Vanity may not have been the process but the Enterprise shown for 7 seasons was more than likely chosen because most audiences identify Picard, and crew, with that ship and not the ugly E.

Totally agree. I suspect that many regular viewers of TNG either (a) didn't end up following the movies, or (b) got turned off by the movies because they were awful. And remember, the E was only in three of the four, ergo the D got 7 years + 2 cinema hours of exposure. So whether it's choice (a) or (b), the average viewer will fondly remember the adventures of their heroes on the 1701-D.

Maybe there will be an Enterprise, just not the one you guys expect. Instead of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-F, maybe for old times' sake, Picard can christen his own personal ship/yacht the SS Enterprise. Is there any rule that says civilian vessels aren't allowed to have the same name as military vessels?

The only ugly Enterprise is the C.
Not the original design...

What They actually used in the show was too boxy looking...

(sorry, didn't realize how big they were and forgot about the hot-linking thingy.

why woukd they go back a class?

No, because the Galaxy class has already been marketed in real life. If we see the Enterprise, it will be a new design.

I'd like that "retro 2360s" feeling.
It won't happen in the new series most likely but it would be nice to see the Galaxy class again.

For everyone who loves TNG it would connect the new series with TNG nicely, even if it's not a sequel.
Picard and Galaxy class together again. :adore:

The onscreen version was kinda the baby of the Constitution and the Excelsior classes. The concept version would have been much closer in design to the Galaxy, just with the Excelsior neck ribs.

They could both have existed, but the onscreen Ambassador would be an earlier ship I think.

I think that hologram of the Enterprise-D is the closest we’re going to get to seeing a Galaxy class ship in STP. :(
