Picard: Status of the Enterprise?

What do you think is the status of the Enterprise in Picard?

Is the -E still around? Or have they moved on to the -F?

According to STO (which is semi-canon) the -E remained active until at least 2386 and the -F went into service by 2409.

If Picard takes place in 2399, that would mean 10 years without an Enterprise.

By 2386 the -E would be 14 years old. If I remember the TM correctly then the normal live span of a Starfleet ship is 20 to 30 years.

My "head canon" has the -E substantially refit in 2387, expanding its "best before" into the first decade of the 2400s. Destroyed or decommisioned in 2408.

I'm inclined to think that the Enterprise-E is still around and is upgraded from when we last saw her in Nemesis. Nothing too drastic like the original Enterprise was in TMP (or the Enterprise-D in "All Good Things..."), but enough to see a difference from nearly 20 years ago.

Maybe mainly internal upgrades, possibly different warp nacelles, new bridge module.

Do you think we will get to see her? At least seeing the NCC 1701 was basically mandatory fan service for DSC. I suspect seeing the -E in Picard is to be an almost given. Don´t think we´ll have any on board scenes though.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I believe she'll still be easily recognizable as a Sovereign-class at a glance.

Yeah, I think the odds are pretty good we'll see the Enterprise-E at some point--either in the pilot or the first season finale maybe. Probably not much more than a cameo, but I agree no on board scenes.

Probably in deep space under a new captain and crew.

Trek ships function 100% fine after a century and, per "Calypso", 1000 years. They should never need those BS retirements after 10 years (NX-01, which previously survived a century in the "E2" timeline) or 20 (STIII)

The easy option is to have her destroyed. That way you don't have to try and make something that resembles the ship as last seen in Nemesis. You have more freedom when it comes to designing an Enterprise-F and can introduce a new captain, etc for any potential spin off or Short Trek. E had plenty of screen time with 3 films. Let there be a new "hero" Starfleet ship in Picard.

The placard under the Enterprise-E model on display the Picard museum says she's still the newest Enterprise.

It could mean she's retired/destroyed and they haven't built an Ent-F yet, or she's still in service. Either way, she would still be the 'newest'.

Now, they could have lied on there as to not spoil any plot points from the show. Plus it's not canon until it's on screen.

Either the Enterprise E us off somewhere having its own adventures, or it was destroyed in the disastrous event that makes Picard leave Starfleet.

This would make the most sense if they go with "destroyed".

Maybe all they have left is the plaque, though I'm surprised they wouldn't put the E-D plaque in that display.

Given that most of the "DSC-style" was designed by John Eaves IIRC, who also designed the Sovereign-class IMO you may be overestimating the difficulty there.

Not with standing the above, I don't expect the E-E to appear often enough to count as the "hero ship", at most I'd see it being on the level of the Rotarran from late DS9 s5 through s7.

Here’s what I believe will happen. The producers of STP will initially have no plans to show the Enterprise, but near the end of the season that will change and we’ll see the ship right at the end of the final episode of season 1. And it will be a new design, so that they can market it.

This has all happened before, and it will happen again.

If they keep losing Enterprises, someone is going to get superstitious and stop naming things Enterprise. I get that Enterprises get put in very dangerous situations, but MY GOD MAN this one sat out the war, surely it could be one of the few Enterprises to get a long life and a decent retirement. Park it next to XCV-330 and, presumably, NX-01.

Well, we have no idea what eventually happened to the A and the B. For all we know they are both in a museum somewhere or were rechristened with different names. Perhaps that’s Starfleet policy when it comes to the Enterprise - every twenty years or so there needs to be a new ship built regardless of whether the old one is still active or has been destroyed.

I think I'm gonna block you.
You're free to do so, but publicly announcing that you're using the Ignore feature on someone is considered a form of Trolling, so don't do it again.

Now that's your last friendly since the Warning that I just gave you in another forum. Any more actionable behavior will be met with another formal Warning.
