Picard speech question

john titor

Captain
I can't remember this speech at all except for this line

"one day...perhaps"

anyone know which episode this is from?

It's from 6.20 The Chase. Here's a link to my review with the full text of the quote:

Romulan: Captain, our ships are leaving orbit for Romulan space. Until our next encounter.
Picard: Until then.
Romulan: It would seem that we are not completely dis-siimilar after all; in our hopes, and in our fears.
Picard: Yes.
Romulan: Well, then, perhaps…one day.
Picard: One day.

I instantly thought of "Redemption Part 2", when Gowron responds to the junior Duras when he says that they were going to rule the Klingon Empire.

"One day, perhaps.... but not today!"

Maybe it's just a favourite line the writers like?

"My love is a fever, longing still for that which no longer nurseth the disease.
In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes for they in thee a thousand errors see, but tis my heart that loves what they despise, who in spite of view are pleased to dote - shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely, and more temperate . . ."

That's the first episode that came to mind for me. I really enjoyed that one actually, pretty interesting concept.

It was rather touching, and it showed that there were some traces of the less villainous TOS Romulans in TNG+ (we did see other good Romulan characters in TNG as well, like in "Face of the Enemy").
