Fuck yes!
The new Picard-television series is going back to the classic Trek shooting location and will be filmed in California:

Now that's
amazing news. As you maybe know,
"Discovery" is shot in Canada, Vancouver & Toronto, like Stargate back in the day.
Now way is this such good news?
Well, first of all "alien planet Mojave desert" with it's famous
Kirk's Rock is a much better alien planet than
"planet Canadian forest". But also, that means we have
two Trek shooting locations in vastly different geographic areas! That means they can share ressources and swap locations a lot cheaper and more easily!
They can fly the
Discovery actors to Californa, and shoot on the
Tillman Water Reclamation Plant , the traditional
Starfleet Academy, with the team and crew from the Picard show, or fly Picard to Canada and have him stand in a lush, Canadian forest (instead of using the same Japanese Garden that's usually the "Star Trek forests"), or the Quarrie they filmed the MU planet in. All with already having a Trek filming crew on place.
All in all, that means if each show wants to have location shootings, they don't have to ferry their entire crew and equipment far away, they can now use the ones already there! Which is
much, MUCH better for each show's budget!
I do severly hope that that means we will get to see way more outside location shootings, portraying different planets with vastly different climates and geography, and that those will be way more different between each other than ever before (when Trek was stuck at only one filming location)!
The only drawback might be that the writers of each show then don't have very regular, personal contact with each other, and that Kurtzman has to fly around a lot supervising both shows. But in the age of social media and the Internet, that should IMO work out fine.
Good, practical news everybody!
