Lord Terry Matalas saved PIC by making S3 as memorable as it is, or it would have ended in a whimper like DISC.

Memorable is certainly a word for it.

I do not think either was really done dirty, especially Elnor. Whi was kind of on the edges from jump. And he got pushed aside in S2, really, not S3.

Laris is a bit of another matter. Not having closure there did bug me a bit. And I was rooting for her. In my head, Picard is friends with Beverly but they are not together, and he goes off with Laris. But it did not look that way to me.

But having three seasons of Picard and not having virtually any TNG callbacks does not make much sense either. Really.

I do agree with the sentiment of the thread creator. Though I think Laris (and Zhaban) were mishandled from the start. It made no sense for them to not go with Picard to help out in the first season. They could've perhaps even given Zhaban a heroic death instead of killing him off screen. I think they gave up on the Picard-specific characters for the most part and I think that started in the second season.

The actor wasn't available for the second season, so they had no choice but to give him an off-screen death.

Indeed, yes. There was a lot more dramatic storytelling to unpack and enjoy. There was zero reason to bring Beverly back, and not explore the life that Picard had established post-Starfleet.
