News Picard Audio Drama Announced - No Man's Land

I know it's been mentioned that whether they continue with these is dependent on sales here but I'd quite like to see Discovery get a few of these. A few self-contained stories of something like a couple of non-Burnham bridge crew members going on an away mission and finding a problem they have to solve is something I've wanted to see more of from Discovery for a while and If we're not getting it on television this is the second-best method for me. The away mission suggestion was more just because it seems like the easiest way to reduce the size of the cast for an episode so we can really focus on the characters we get less of in the show... and reduce the budget.

I got my copy from iBooks (still haven't listened to it, because I'm thinking I might actually watch Picard at some point in the relatively near future, so I may as well save it). It is DRM'd (which surprised me, songs are DRM-free when purchased on Apple's store, I expected audiobooks to be treated that way rather than like movies or, well, books).

Yeah, when BBC's AudioGo went out of business I tried buying one of their audios on iTunes. Unlike AudioGo, which was DRM-free, downloadable, and 256 kbps mp3, well, iTunes audiobooks weren't. And that was many years after iTunes improved the bit rate and eliminated the DRM on their music. If No Man's Land was available on CD I'd buy that, but....

The Literary Treks interview with Kirsten and Mike is out now! I hope you enjoy!

I'm glad you were able to get Kirsten back for your interview .It's really was neat she took the time out of her busy schedule to talk about Picard No Man's land.

100%! She really is so busy so I am always honored that she is willing to give us any time!

Well, I listened to No Man's Land. The story was okay, nice to hear Raffi and Seven, but... after a couple of decades of listening to Big Finish Doctor Who audios, I thought this felt kind of amateurish by comparison. Even when a BF story's not the best, it'll still do a better job of using a bit of dialogue and sound design to put you into a setting you can visualize. This had some sound effects but it wasn't always good at presenting a sense of place. The music didn't feel well integrated into the story, and it also didn't sound like music for a Star Trek story. A couple of performances could have been a bit better, too, imho. Not a bad first effort, but if they're going to do more, they should listen to what BF does with Doctor Who and Blake's 7.

I agree the audio was a bit amateurish compared to Big Finish. Definitely felt like a work in progress trying to get the kinks out of the format. The story was fine, nothing too exciting or essential, but I did like seeing Raffi and Seven at the early stage of dating given the show is apparently skipping that. I think it will sell their relationship on screen more.
Jeri Ryan absolutely stole this performance wise though.

I haven't really followed what's going on with this audio drama release, nor have I listened to it. I do find it interesting where things might go if successful. However, I think it might have been better to do different characters from a different series. We saw just moments of their relationship in Picard. So there isn't much there to interest me.

To me, it’s really more about Seven’s life as a Fenris Ranger. Which was really interesting to see.

Eh that's personally the reason I was more interested in this than I would have been a lot of other potential tie-in ideas.

We already have kind of a blank state start for these characters but they're in the middle of a relationship we haven't seen much about.

Fleshing out the early stages of that relationship in a story where that fits really well thematically did wonders.

It helps that we know that the start of Picard S2 will complete skip this stage of the relationship so as a tie-in will feel kinda essential to me, they were literally both regulars last season for any other show you'd think the early stages of a relationship would be the logical starting point but I guess not.
