I'm still wondering why the photon torpedo that destroyed the Sha-Ka-Ree entity's "cathedral" exploded not far from Kirk, Spock and McCoy yet none of them were even remotely injured by what must have been a pretty big blast.

I think it is on some nigh illegible infoscreen at some point.
Well, that screen when Dahj is looking for him only gives a birth year, not his age or current date.

However, I did google the coordinates on that screen, and it put me in San Francisco, but on the wrong side of the bay, at a Bank of America building

Because Spock calibrated the yield precisely.

Regarding the date the show takes place, people say Picard was referred to as 92 years old somewhere in episode 1. Where was that?

I can't recall it myself. But it seems he must be even older if we use his TNG birthday:

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Jean-Luc_Picard
Jean-Luc Picard was born in La Barre, France on Earth to Maurice and Yvette Picard on July 13, 2305.

The series is set in 2399 which would make him close to 94 years old. It looks like it is spring in France. I didn't see any grapes, but it is also clearly not winter anymore.

;)

Shame Chekov was visibly worried about their proximity to the target. Kirk was the one who told him to go ahead and fire the torpedo, so I guess Kirk's bravado and manly hairpiece protected them.
