Piazza retires, sad sad day

You know, I put the Mike Piazza retiring thing in the same category as no more Star Trek on TV....just two things that make me sad.

It just doesn't feel right...

Its such a sad day today with Mike`s retirement. He carried a group of bums to the World Series in 2000, smashed a huge home run at shea after 9/11, and was a great player for the Mets.

I hope the Mets honor him by letting him take down 31 at Shea during this year and he needs to get a cermoney before the year is up. I`d also like the Mets to retire his number and he should go into the Hall as a Met. He played more games with us, had more records with us and in his own retirement speech liked playing with us more.

I also think the Mets should hire him as a hitting coach cause this team has no clue when it comes to using a bat.

Mike Piazza was my all time favorite Mets player. I have been a Mets fan for over 30 years and only a few players come close for me. I thought for sure that the Yankees would pick him up to catch and hit until Posada comes back. I think when the Yanks didn't pick him up, he decided that it was time to retire.

I still have goose bumps every time I think about that home run after 9/11 and its even worst when I watch a clip. As a rule I don't own Jerseys, (when I say Jerseys I mean either actual game Jerseys or their 'reproductions') I do wear Mets shirts and hats and however when Mike left the Mets I went out and purchased his Jersey. I don't wear it or have it hanging up anywhere, it just sitting in a box and hopefully one day I will get to talk to my children about him.

Sorry about the rambling, I do miss him so.

So he really spent more time with the Mets than Dodgers. Whenever I think Piazza, I always think him as a Dodger and think LA should retire that number for the memorable years he gave that team. Of course we get this news and I'm the only guy who actually brought up the fact that he did play for a team out west. East Coast bias on the BBS perhaps? ;)

I for one don't care about Piazza. The man betrayed the Dodger organization... the team that gave him a chance because of Tommy. While I am sure he will end up in the Hall of Fame, from my chair, the man is nothing but a traitor

The Dodgers traded him because he wanted an insane contract.
He should have shown some loyalty and accepted the reasonable offer the Dodgers made.

He should go into the Hall as a Met.

But more and more players are spending time with multiple organizations and this is going to start becoming a huge pain in the butt!

Mike Piazza will always be a Dodger in my heart.

I don't even know what to say in regards to his retirement, but this is how I feel -----> :(

Damn, I'm getting old now. I remember when he was the new hot shot.

Same here.

Shit.

I remember when Mike Scioscia was the new hot shot catcher for the Dodgers.

QFT. He screwed them before they traded him. I do find it ironic that he wound up managing for another LA team though.

He's not old! I remember ol' Mike Scioscia! Ironic that the Dodger team of the late 80s/90s seemed to have all worked as Managers/coaches for the Angel squad of this century!

Piazza will go into the Hall as a Marlin, just like Clemens will go in as a Blue Jay. :p

This is actually a bit of an issue when it comes to free agency and trades and playing for multiple teams. Rickey Henderson is going into the Hall of Fame, but he's played for like a dozen teams. Was he with the Yankees or A's long enough for either team to retire his number? If Fred McGriff had the stats to go into the Hall, no one would retire his number.

Yet another price we pay for the modern era of free agency. Before you had your team... and their hated rivals...
And your guys would never play for them... And they never played for your team

And these rivalries developed because of the much lower turnover among players...

Now, the "rivalries" are all buy dead because this year you might be in a 'Sox uni, and next year you would be a yankee
