Phrases that are ruined forever

B.J.

There are certain phrases that are quite mundane by themselves, but you can no longer use them seriously because they've been used in a movie, song, TV show, etc. Anytime these phrases are used, it pretty much gets derailed by that association. Here's a couple I can think of:

"Who ya gonna call?"
"You complete me."

Anybody have any others?

I can't hear the phrase "you're tearing me apart" anymore without expecting to hear "LIIIIISA!" as well.

It'll be okay - I hear "Just dance, it'll be okay..."

There are four lights - I have some people who build, and I can't help but smirk every time.

It was a wonderfully gay time. - Really, any variation of this statement.

Well, I don't know if this counts, but using that old, old, old American Express "Don't leave home without it!" in a movie when a guy uses a credit card (or even some other useful object) to open a door. Ugh. Not funny at all, barely even funny the first time.

"I'll be back" can't even say it without using the accent as well now.

There are more but none spring to mind... *cogs whirl*

"Can you hear me now?"

I mean, I actually have to say that when testing intercoms or old cell-phones......

I feel like a bad cliché saying that repeatedly........ :(

AAARRGHH!

What do they build? -It's driving me insane not knowing!

As to the phrase itself; I always skip into English when on the phone with my ISP! (the first person you get in contact with invariably asks about the number of lit LEDs on your modem.)

Oh, and: "Oh, my..."

Mostly handymen who go in and do repair jobs. Sometimes they have rebuild something.

Also... a couple others...

"The more you know"
"It's half the battle"

Does a bear use Charmin(tm) in the woods?

Read a description of how the (crew) Waste Collection System in the space shuttle orbiter works. Remember how some people describe things suddenly going wrong as "... then the (deleted) hit the fan."
