Photography - parent's dog "Blitz"

Doing some experimenting with fast shutter speeds-- I actually shot at 1/800th of a second at 1600 ISO-- slight overcast outside. Was that speed overkill? I also was running on continuous focus and snapped multiple shots before I got the one I liked. Any other advice for getting good still shots of moving targets?

You don't seem to need any advice. That shot was sharp as can be. Very cool.

Here are some decent shots of Whales from my last Whale Watch two years ago. They can't really capture the experience. We were in the middle of a Pod of whales, including a bunch of kids-- I forget how many. Twenty? Thirty? Everywhere you looked there were Whales.

Nice! Here's a few more of the natives up there.

There were stellar sea lions all over the place, I was looking down at the water between the whales' breathing cycles, and this guy popped up right off the side. Startled me. He swam around the boat for a good half hour.

Here's where all the cool sea lions hang out.

Saw a grizzly along the shoreline when we took the glacier cruise.

This moose was right outside the window of the inn we stayed at.

I agree...it looks great. Just keep messing around with the settings and see what works best. My daughter was in competitive gymnastics and it took a long time before good pictures were snapped of her mid-air or mid-movement. The competitions were inside a gym and the lighting was awful, too. It's a challenge, but a fun one.

Fantastic pictures. The moose reminds me of Northern Exposure. I'd love to travel up there. Between the forests and the animals, it seems like a paradise.

Thank you, cb. All I can tell you is that when you're in the middle of a huge group of Whales like we were, the pictures practically take themselves.
