Photobucket beta gripe

I need some advice on something I find vexing. In general I haven't minded the new beta version of PB, but I have noticed an annoying tendency to alter file names for no apparent reason during uploads (specifically it adds a string of extra characters to the name, which causes issues if you don't notice it when you post a link or image tag). There doesn't seem to be any direct way to edit the file name on the new system, unlike the old system, and I thought I'd found a way around that problem (saving a copy with the corrected name in the editor, and then deleting the stringed original), but that turned out not to be the case.

Has anyone figured out how to make this sort of change? It should be simple, but I haven't been able to find the right option. :p The PB FAQ doesn't help since it only lists the older version and the description of the new editor doesn't seem to have such an option.

I'm not using PB Beta. I reverted back to the default layout, and I will stay there as long as I can. I love PhotoBucket, but they seem to be intent on increasing the number of steps between uploading and sharing a simple image. When I first started using PhotoBucket, it took 2 clicks total to go from image on PC to image uploaded to shared image. 2 clicks. Now it takes 4 clicks across 3 screens, and while that may not seem like much, it just gets more cumbersome to use, and I told them that when they asked why I reverted back to the default layout.

I have to admit, the thought has crossed my mind. It's a pretty minor thing, but it never happened on the original format and it doesn't seem to affect all uploads. Only some of them. I generally like to keep file names short so they're easier to remember.

Yeah, I do hate the Beta quite a bit. I find it more difficult to switch to a different folder to upload to, and when creating new folders, it doesn't default to the root. Instead, you need to specifically tell it you want the root which feels counterintuitive. The site also feels much slower and less responsive and less interactive.

I've had problems with the Beta as well. When posting on another board, I couldn't get the thumbnails to work properly, but once I went back to the old layout, they worked fine again. So hopefully, they don't make the Beta version the only one available, or if they do, they at least work out all the bugs and make it easier to use.

I hate the fact that you can no longer browse anything on there without JavaScript turned on (anyone with common sense would have it disabled by default and only enabled on a per-site basis, and the fewer sites needing it the better).

One thing I find is that in the old version, you just needed to hover over images to have the image links appear, then select which one you wanted. Now you have to go through a few unnecessary clicks.

I know it's a really petty thing to be annoyed about, but its the little things that really get under my skin!

The old PB worked just fine, whoever says "change is good" is just wrong :)

Hate, hate, hate Pb beta. Used to like it... but once it wouldn't let me upload pics, I changed back to the old version... which at least loads better.

Does it consistently do that? It's been my experience that Beta is very wonky on the upload feature - Drag & Drop is nice when it works, but it's not completely reliable with bulk uploads.

It used to work. But now it consistantly does that. Couldn't even get the dang thing to upload a single image.

I might wind up going back to the older format soon; that always worked reliably for me.

I can't seem to find a way to zoom and see the full size images in the beta. Only if I click and download it. Am I somehow missing it?

I'd been getting less and less pleased with Photobucket's performance already and I don't think very highly of the Beta - it's no faster than the other, it adds unnecessary steps and wrinkles, and it tends to hang up a lot more often. Also doesn't seem to get along at all well with the security software. Got switched to it 2 or 3 months ago and was completely unable to switch back without closing Opera and going to Firefox to change the setting.

Just this morning, I discovered another annoyance: if you look at any image in the Photobucket account of someone who's switched to the Beta, it automatically switches your settings to Beta with no prompt or warning. Maybe this "feature" is peculiar to the Beta's behavior in Opera, but it utterly fails to make me happy.

@ M'sharak: Noticed that as well. Not sure why they'd go and do that, unless they want to go and scare off customers. *scratches head*

Well, I switched over to Beta, just to get used to it, because we all know it's not going back, and while it's functional, it is quite buggy, and there are more steps involved in a simple upload and share, which is silly.

Yeah, I'm trying to tough it out, but when I know that just on the other side of that "go back" button is a somewhat simpler, better system, it's difficult not to drop the whole beta thing. Still, whether I like it or not, beta will stay and become the full fledged system. I might as well get used to it.
