STAR TREK
PHASE-TWO
SECTOR 001
Runner
James T Kirk held his son, and as he did, he ran through the forest as fast as he could. Kirk’s breath was becoming heavy as he ran, but he couldn’t risk stopping. He had been able to knock out the man named Kyle, or so the nametag read, and Kirk had taken the man’s gun and had quickly made an escape from the trailer of the truck.
Kirk had seen the sign of the gas station/truck stop just as he ran out of the fueling depot. He knew, as least, he was in Colorado, and very near the Rocky Mountains.
As Kirk stopped for a moment to catch his breath, he looked down at his infant son who was smiling back up at him. To David, Kirk realized, it was all good fun. But not more than a half-hour has passed since Kirk had been in the far of Delta-Quadrant aboard the USS ENTERPRISE. At best, it would take the ship 80 years to make the trip back to Earth, but now Kirk found himself back on Earth, holding his infant son, and trying to figure out what was going on.
What he did know was this; Weeks ago, the Enterprise had been orbiting the planet Romulas when, unexpectedly, Gary Mitchell flung the ship to the far Delta-Quadrant. Now, somehow, it was as if Kirk had never left, and was back on Earth. Kirk had some idea as to why he was not back on Earth. His infant son, David, had been brought back to life. Where David had been, while dead, no one knew. But Kirk was pretty sure that his son had abilities, not unlike those of Gary Mitchell, Kirk’s former friend, who had brought David back to life after revealing to Kirk that he, Mitchell, had inadvertently killed David. That would all have to be sorted out later, because what mattered now was saving his son from whom ever it had been who put him in the back of that truck in the first place.
The first think Kirk would have to do was to find someway to contact Colonel Pike, and let him know what was going on. But in the middle of a desolate forest, and with no way to contact Pike, or anyone for that matter, would be easier than said. Kirk had also deduced that who ever had gone through the trouble of putting David in the back of a truck, surrounded by a strange wire mesh, was no doubt not held back by the lack resources, and would no doubt not stop an any length to get David back. It also mean that whoever had kidnapped David knew of the infant’s abilities as well. Kirk put two and two together, and knew that there were those in the world, even in the mid twenty-first century, who would stop at nothing to control such power.
--
Nearly fifty mile from where Kirk was running for his life, another man sat inside an office on a long since abandoned air force base, deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. His name was Sloan, and he was the one who had gone through great lengths to apprehend the infant, David Marcus. In fact, he had seen to the murder of David’s adoptive mother, Caroline Anders, and had seen to the transfer of the baby.
Sloan hung up the phone upon hearing the news. Somehow, someway, the child had been taken from the truck. According to one of the two drivers it had been Captain James T Kirk, the world’s most famous hero, who had rescued the child, who was in actuality, his son. How Kirk had appeared on the scene in the first place, Sloan didn’t no exactly; but he had an idea. David Marcus was showing unique abilities. According to Sloan’s recourses at the new Starfleet Complex in San Francisco, the Enterprise had been lost in the Delta-quadrant. If the child, David, had instantly transferred Kirk back from the Delta-quadrant, then the child was more powerful than Sloan had first believed, and had to become the property of Section-31.
Luckily, for Sloan, Kirk was no doubt running through the forest. Slone knew that Kirk had no way to communicate for help, but that wouldn’t last for long. Another thing in Sloan’s favor was that Kirk’s progress was no doubt hampered by having to carry a baby in the dark reaches of the forest. Sloan made a call, and moments later, a crack team of men, under the employee of Section-31, took off in two helicopters from the air force, and headed out of the air force base and towards the Rocky Mountain forest. The crack team was armed with the latest weapons and gear that would help them find Kirk. But most of all, Sloan told the commander of the team, the child had to be captured alive. Kirk could be killed, but the child had to be alive when captured.
--
James Kirk was growing weary and found a hidden spot among a bunch of trees and branches. David was asleep, which was good. But Kirk knew that he had to find food and water, or both he, and the child, would face the threats of starvation and thirst. But James T Kirk had taken many survival coursed during his military career. He knew where to find food, and water. He also knew how to make a shrewd compass in such conditions. What he didn’t know was how far he was from a main road. He had decided to run away from the road that ran by the gas-station, figuring that those who might come after him would come from the road. Instead, Kirk ran off into the forest. It was now a race against time. Meaning, he knew who ever had gone through the trouble of kidnapping David would no doubt come for the child, and that meant time was not on Kirk’s side.
