Phase II Enterprise Model

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
I was watching Hollywood Treasures and they came across the Phase II Enterprise model and moulds at Wonder Works. A place that typically does NASA related movie props.

The old coot running the place wouldn't part with the model or moulds and I don't blame him.

Anyone else see this or have anything more to add?

I've always been fond of this ship because it more closely suggests a refit as compared to TMP's version (which I love).

Has anyone made a custom physical model of this Enterprise?

i dont remember the link but i did see somethink like it on the Starship modeler website page :)

There's been a few 3D renderings posted here over the years.

I always preferred the artwork from the first movie ad, which was "a" Mike Minor version, I believe.

I saw that episode as well. If I had been there I would have said to the owner, "OK, I can understand you not wanting to sell. But, can I borrow the molds for a few days?"

I did a kitbash a while back...

I was mainly trying to find a use for a broken refit that refused to hold onto its saucer, along with making a proof-of-concept model to show off at Star Fest. It actually won the top prize (in an admittedly slow year).

Y'know, I've got at least 3 each of those models, I should get my kitbashing mojo going again.

It's been something like 12 years since I did the Nebula & TMP era BOP.

I'm thinking the TMP saucer section with the TOS bridge module & lower sensor dome. It seemed that large in all the artwork & photos.

Looks really nice. The underside of the saucer looks--how to say--friendlier without the boxy projections that take away from the smile, as it were.

Now you had the Brick Price Phase II (Constitution II) and the Phase II-TMP transitional piece we saw on the cover of Starlog's SPACESHIP handbook. (Tikopai) that had the ST:TMP nacelles but kept the Phase II saucer. This was modified a last time and used as a refit in some display if memory serves.

I seem to remember one done up as the true refit with all the mods but the nacelle supports were a tad bit closer together. Over at www.federationreference.com. there was a picture of this last incarnation in Spacedock IIRC.

A warning: The curvature of the saucer's undercut doesn't match up with the top of the refit's neck, so get ready for some surgery.

I was thinking I would need to use the TOS neck anyway if I did the Minor version, though it looks like the TOS secondary hull could be used.
Getting rid of the TMP torp launcher would remove most of that part of the neck.
Also the difference in the outer part of the underside from either one would be a challenge, not to mention the nacelles.
Could be a lot of fun though.

The "Minor version" are Mike Minor's renderings of Jefferies' redesign of the ship for Phase II; you can find the working drawings for the model several places online. If you do an overlay you'll find that the contours and proportions of the lower hull and saucer on the Phase II ship are virtually identical to the ST:TMP version. IIRC, the TMP version extends the rear of the lower hull out a bit further, and that's the major difference.

I just saw where the movie poster art was by John Berkey and the Mike Minor art was closer to the TMP version.

Just got back from backpacking in Algonquin Provincial Park!

Yes- Dennis's being the most detailed and recent. It's really cool, though I'm not keen on the blue nacelle caps- but that's a personal thing for me.

It's physical models that I'm really curious about though and am surprised, in retrospect, that I haven't seen any.

Just spend time with it- take pictures and measurements... Touch it...

It was discussed and the episode linked over in this thread.

Here we go! This is on the way to what I was hoping on seeing. Nice job despite the obvious resources limitations!

This is the one in the comics that I remember so well. I have a comic upstairs with this image! I love it and wonder how it would look with a TMP type paint job. With those wonderfully colourful panels!

The comic book ads are absolutely where I saw it too.

Never forgot that version of the ship. Loved the actual TMP version though.
