Phase II DVD Inserts?

doubleohfive

Fleet Admiral
Many productions go the extra step and produce artwork for their shows. DarkerProjects has images to go along with their podcast episodes. Farragut has printable DVD inserts for their episodes .... I know there are/were same for the early Phase II episodes but they've been taken down.

I'm curious as to why?

Beacuse people were burning DVD-Rs of the episodes, putting them in nice DVD cases with nice artwork on the discs and on the cover/inserts and then selling them at conventions and on ebay and making lots of money and, of course, giving none of the money to the property owners (or to us for that matter).

It seems kind of rotten that we spend a fortune to make these episodes and are very, very careful to not gross one dime from them--and then someone comes along and makes some money off of the property. The concern was that Paramount/CBS property owners would just use a shotgun approach in order to solve the problem of someone making money off of Trek: they would just say "Well, enough is enough. We're shutting down all these fan-things." So, if only as an act of self-preservation and to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, we've tried to make it a little harder for people to steal from Paramount/CBS--in the hopes that Paramount/CBS won't just find it easier to come after us rather than the real offenders. I'm sorry that, as is so often the case, some bad apples spoil it for everyone.

Hi Greg -

Thanks for answering. I've been trying to find an explanation for this and figured you would be the one to have an answer.

I do agree -- it's pretty crappy that the nickel'n'dimers are out there, and I commend you guys for taking the steps necessary to limit unauthorized sales and distribution. Everyone in the fan film community thanks you for that foresight.

Mainly this thread was about my own morbid curiosity on the subject. Thanks again!

A shame, really. It was good artwork. But, I'm all for keeping the fan films going. Who did the artwork, by the way?
