Phase II Constitution Class

Hi there!

Some time ago the user "shaw" posted his nice revision of the Phase II blueprints. That was when I finaly decided to build this nice little ship:

I've never been really fond of this version of the ship, but I gotta say that that actually looks rather nice as a 3D model. :thumbsup:

I think it looks nice, as has been discussed on this board several times before, this design provides a nice connection between the series Enterprise and the Movie enterprise. While I can believe that the movie enterprise is the same ship as the series Enterprise (Look at US battleships from the late WW1 era, and then at their appearence at the end of WW2, example of the USS Nevada http://geocities.com/batdev/nevadabb-36class.html) this model provides a clearer connection.

This kind of tweeking of the 1701 for STXI that I can live with. Great job, looks great.

That looks fabulous. Beautiful modeling and really faithful to Jeffries' blueprints. One question, though: what's going on with the deflector dish? It's too dark in that area to see clearly.

Great great stuff.
Very impressive on its own,
but also the best representation of this Enterprise I've seen.

I was actually thinking (and I know there they're on the original concept for the Phase II refit) that the secondary-hull would look better without the large numbers.

It wasn't just in the concept drawings.

Besides, the ship needs a clearly readable registry from the sides, and there's not enough room on the nacelles for that, so....

Obviously you need to fix the side registry font but it's really looking great otherwise. I can't tell if you have the bottom of the saucer correct though. It seems more severe in the model photos and there's a distinct lip as well.

I suspect the 3 'sensors" or whatever on the front of the saucer are too large as well.

I'm drooling.

Upps, didn't catch that little bug with the registry. :P

@Just_Bob:
I modeled the ship with a demo version of 3D Studio Max 9, which is realy a pain in the arse, because it only runs 30 days and it took me longer than that to finish the model. Damn Autodesk for making that software so expensive!

@dru:
I obviously took some artistic licence on the ship since the build versions of TOS-connie weren't exactly the same as on the blueprints. And those 3 thingies are supposed to be emergency deflectors. My guess was that even if they are only used in an emergency they shouldn't be too small :p

@Captain Robert April:
Well, I'm quite puzzled, because it IS the same font...but I have to check on the registry anyways...

@Gep Malakai:
I guess I could blame the bad combination of the lighting rig, the effects and the texture..but in the end it's just one of the tings I have still to fix. :p

@rest of you guys:

Thanks for the nice words!

If I remember correctly though, the hull section leading to the sensor dome for the Phase II Enterprise was supposed to be as thick as the one for the TOS Enterprise:

In your pics, the hull section leading to the sensor dome is as "less noticeable" as the one for the refit Enterprise. :(

[I think I stated here before how I liked the thicker hull section, thus enabling a more heavily armed starship, retaining photorps above the sensor dome while having additional photorps at the bottom of the neck.]

Well, the saucer was done by drawing a spline pretty much based on the plans of Jefferies blueprints. If you look closely to the different promotional arts that had been done back then, you will notice many deviations, mostly on the saucer but also on the nacelles.
