Peter S Beagle (Last Unicorn, "Sarek") suing publisher for Elder Abuse

Re: Peter S Beagle (Last Unicorn, "Sarek") suing publisher for Elder A

That's sad. Peter is not a young man. Glad to have met him at a convention in 2007, but the guy he is now suing seemed a bit shady to me. Now, that other side has published (in a joint statement with Conor, and Peter's own kids) that the accusations are exaggerated or outright false, a consequence of his age and deteriorating health.

That said, it's been weird following the story of The Last Unicorn over the years. I'd call it a property ripe for adaptation to film or other media, but various legal squabbles have kept it from even being available. I do feel for the writer of one of my favorite books of all time, but the way that both lawyers and Conlan Press have been beating a dead horse and its owner (sic) has long since kept me from supporting things on either side. Truly an unfortunate circumstance.

There is that, true. There is also this:

http://fansagainstfraud.com/

Which is a website outlining a 10 year history of complaints from customers of Conlan Press.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm one of those people who has been waiting on a copy of the Two Hearts book for 10 years. I bought it for my wife for Christmas back in 2005, and we've been strung along ever since. I don't have a complaint on that site, though - I know I'm out the $40, now I'm just watching where all of this is going.

Fair enough - always more than one side, and I'm not about to take anyone's on the issue. We fans will likely never know what's really going on, and if it's a private / emotional affair, it's hardly our place.

I agree. I hope Peter is okay, but honestly, I'm watching almost entirely to see how things shake out regarding my purchase. I strongly expect that to mean I'm out that $40 - but at least I will KNOW, finally, instead of it being Schrodinger's Purchase. ;)
