Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

We've heard this speculation before, but now it's seems a little closer to being real.

Sounds like a joke, doesn't it? We thought so too but, as it turns out, DW writer Steven Moffat has addressed Peter's request during a recent Q&A event in Edinburgh - and he's taking steps to make it happen:

"He's serious about it. We talked at The Hobbit premiere - he just wants a Dalek. So we'll give him a Dalek and he'll direct an episode. I think he'd like to us to go to New Zealand. I think it's entirely possible."
Considering PJ and Moffat have worked together before (Tintin) and PJ is a huge Doctor Who fan, this seems entirely possibly. The only question remains: Can the production afford to go to New Zealand?

I'd love some overseas filming - the UK gets a bit repetitive sometimes.

There is so much variety in NZ too. They could make it more affordable by shooting several episodes down there and using Peters facilities.

Besides - I'd like a 4 hour episode...

One can imagine the Mail headline now considering how much it might cost...I think if they did do it they'd probably have to film more than one episode there.

You know April Fools Day was several months ago, unless you are getting in early for next year. :p

But as others have said there is a cost in taking the production half way round the world for one episode. In order to justify it perhaps it would have to be at minimum a two-parter. But how many people do they need to take, the Doctor, Companion(s) and a few others peraps. Can't see it being more than 10 people that would need to go from the UK they can just use local talent.

Quentin Tarantino directed an episode of Emergency Room and Alias. It's not impossible that Peter Jackson directs a Who episode. Nobody said they would be moving production to NZ. Jackson would be going to where they currently shoot.

Perhaps, but it's like they haven't shoot episodes of DW outside of the UK before. Plus in a show about going to toher worlds and time periods it can be interesting to see different locations.

Tarentino didn't direct Alias, he appeared in a two parter (and a cameo later). He did direct the two part finale of CSI Season Five though.

DW has shot in Spain and the Balkans right?

Did they drive to those or fly? If they flew, then NZ wouldn't be that much more expensive, just a longer flight.

Nu Who has shot in Utah, New York, Spain, and Croatia. Torchwood has shot in Southern California, and some background plates from that were used in The Name Of The Doctor as well.

I think, if they go to New Zealand, it should be a two-parter. Hell, have Peter Jackson pick out locations to shoot in and write the episode around that (New Zealand is a cool-looking place). I'm sure it'll be fun. He'll probably get paid in usable currency in addition to that Dalek, though.

Of course, schedules would have to coincide and, given Doctor Who's tendency to struggle at setting a schedule, that could be difficult.
