Peter Jackson to direct an episode?

It's really amusing how some sites, particularly io9, are treating this as solid confirmation.

The rumor has been rumbling for like 2 years now, so why release this video now? Especially with Capaldi's presence? He could've trolled the fans at any point during the last couple of years if he wanted to.

Personally I could care less if he directs an episode or not. But I think this video was intended to be a teaser to get people excited, and not just to troll.

Because Capaldi was in New Zealand anyway, and every Doctor Who actor who goes there seems to meet up with him?

Because Moffat said in an interview the other week that he keeps sending Jackson emails but he never replies, so he thought it would be funny?

Besides, we know for a damn fact at the moment nothing is planned for the new season. Despite Moffat's claim that we are getting twelve new episodes plus Christmas special next year, we know filming won't begin until sometime in the summer, and I don't get the impression anything's even been written yet. I doubt any directors have been selected yet. If someway, somehow, somesomething Peter Jackson did get secured to direct an episode he would almost certainly need a completed script the moment before he even agreed.

I would invite Senator Vreenak into the thread, except that seems a bit harsh for something which was so obviously only intended as a joke.

I was just thinking; a Peter Jackson directed, shot in New Zealand, Special would be just the thing to distract from the lack of a series next year.

Why just a special? Surely the NZ film industry would be happy to employ some local labor and talent for a full interim series while they find Moffat's replacement, even if the BBC would no doubt insist on importing some significant portion.
