Kiwi director Peter Jackson says he'll be there to direct it if an idea to film Dr Who in New Zealand goes ahead.
Matt Smith, the 11th actor to play the time traveller in the hit BBC series, told the Waikato Times today he would start a campaign to film an episode in New Zealand with Sir Peter Jackson directing.
''I think it would be an absolutely wonderful place to film Doctor Who,'' Smith, on the phone from the UK to promote the latest series of the show, said.
''I'm told it's glorious. I'm told it's quite similar to England.'
'Let's get Peter Jackson to direct one and go and make it in New Zealand. I would love to, I will campaign endlessly to come over and film there,'' Smith, who has never been to New Zealand, said.
''There's clearly a great film industry out there. It's something I would be very interested in it's just whether we can persuade the producers to fly us all over.''
The idea is not as far fetched as one of the cult sci-fi series' plots with Jackson telling the Waikato Times today he was keen to help out.
''I'm a huge Dr Who fan, and I think Matt's fantastic. Just name a time and place, and I'll be there!''
Jackson, who hired seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy for The Hobbit, is a huge Doctor Who fan and even own's McCoy's costume from the show. Smith said he was thrilled with Jackson's interest.
They could offset the cost of flying everyone out here by hiring locals to wear their ordinary clothes. No need for an alien costume department here!

Might be good if it's a sequel to Bad Taste. Have the Doctor team up with the Astro Investigation and Defence Service.

He's a director I've a huge fondness for, to go from gory/sci-fi horror/comedy films to a beutiful period portrayal of matricide to Hollywood fantasy blockbusters is a hell of a journey.

Just a shame he's increasingly fallen into the trap all great directors seem to, of losing the power of editing and forgeting the importance of pacing. Still this would be fab, but at the moment it's just pure wish fulfilment.

Wasn't there another well known director they turned down that wanted to do it? Probably because they were too expensive.

If it ever happens, I hope the Peter Jackson we get is the one who directed Bad Taste, not the one who directed The Lord of the Rings (although I like both of them, and I love the one who directed Forgotten Silver)

I dunno, do we want a guy who takes 7 years (or however long it was) to make one episode?

The Peter Jackson who made Heavenly Creatures for me please. As an added bonus Jackson might bring the Winslet notion back into play...

Jackson will get the script. Film more than is needed.

Decide later to split it into three episodes and release them three seasons apart.

And make 3 billion dollars somehow.
