Agreed. Even though I don't care if it does end, I would definitely like to see it get a real ending.

I don't have a problem with another Excaliber, my problem is just that he has spread his characters out to far and made his cast to big.

Is it any bigger than the extended cast (ie. regulars and recurring characters) of the DS9 TV series?

Not only that, several main players have been killed off over the book series.

^ I suppose that's where the long delay between New Frontier installments causes trouble.

With much more frequent shows/books, it's far easier to give each member of that extended cast their due attention. In this situation, they all end up compressed into a book, which makes it seem scattered, or are not given much of a run and readers are left feeling a bit lost about their direction.

That would also make it particularly difficult for the author to have much of a direction when he doesn't know how many more books he can produce in the series.

^Pretty much, yeah. TBH I think I would have preferred it if he had simply focused on one group of characters in each book, instead of trying to fit everyone into every book. If they do leave the DS9 crew/cast split up, them I'm hoping they'll go that route.
