I've just heard on a couple of gaming podcasts that PE is basically dead and was bought out by a Korean gaming company... some of the devs have already left, implying that the MMO is basically dead as well...

What does this mean in terms of release date and more importantly game play?
From what's been said they are no longer targeting the die hard audience and are trying to make it open to more casual players.

That does not sound like good news to me.
My prediction is that the game will be shelved. If it does actually get released, they'll probably punt a half-finished product which won't get nearly enough players to make it worth playing.
I can believe that, but would prefer no game to a badly designed one.
They are aiming at the Korean and Asian market. Bunch of idiots in my opinion. At least SWG had the sense to appeal to the fans that were most likely to play it, Star Wars fans.

Well basically, it means that instead of "a competition of player prowess and intellect", you get "a competition of player parents' credit cards". Not a good thing for any game, not at all.
Aw, nevermind. It was going to be set in 24th century-ish world, anyway... I can't stand 24th century.

Wow, I hadn't heard about this. Ugh. I was looking forward to the game, but now, I'm not so sure. If they're changing gears this far into development (though who knows how much was really done), then how much longer will it take to finish?
And I can almost see another change in a year if the new movie is wildly successful. They could shift the time frame back to the Original Series. Who knows?

I was looking forward to the game and going to buy new hardware. Now I am rethinking it.
