Perhaps This is More "Origin Story" and Less "Nero"

Doesn't JJA often use flashbacks as a story-telling tool? Maybe we'll see Lt. Kirk right away with flashbacks to earlier points in his life. Same with Spock. We'll see...

It's been confirmed that Winona Kirk (Jennifer Morrison) is pregnant in the movie. My thoughts are that we are going to see the birth of James Kirk. The scenes will (obviously) feature Morrison and probably incorporate Hemsworth's George Kirk as well. I don't know why, but I find it so fascinating that we get to see James Kirk's parents :techman:

Has the "Pregnant" part really been confirmed??

I thought the whole "Kill Kirk's Pregnant Mother" rumor was born out of the plot for The internet film Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, in which someone uses the Gaurdian of forever to go back in time to kill Kirk's pregnant mother to prevent Jim Kirk from ever existing, thus changing the timeline.

It's due to this early confusion over the plot of Abrams' Film and the plot of ST:OGaM that I'm not putting much stock (yet) into the rumors that this film deals with altered timelines.

I'm pretty sure Trekmovie.com has confirmed the pregnant part, but there's not an iota of evidence that anyone is traveling back in time to kill Kirk's mother before she has him. It could very easily be a flashback.

Exactly. Trekmovie.com confirmed that Winona would be pregnant, but I honestly think it is only for the purpose of a flashback of some sort. It seems that the crew is making a big effort to show the "how and why" of Kirk and Spock, especially with the 2nd unit crew having just been spotted in Bakersfield, CA shooting scenes of "Iowa". I don't feel the flashbacks will be part of the plot, but simply, in addition to it.

I'm really hoping it will be 75% Origin/Kick-re-starting Star Trek and 25% Making the Romulans Cool at Last (or "again" since they were on a good track in TOS but it's never really gone beyond that). I'm not very interested in Nero per se, but I suspect he's a disposable villian du jour in any case.
