News Peck And Romijn In A Star Trek: Short Treks Episode

I kind of predicted this one since they didn’t seem to be interested in doing a Pike series:
I don't think it's that they're not interested in doing a Pike series per se, BUT it's pretty clear they were probably pleasantly surprised at fans response to Anson Mount as "Pike" and Ethan Peck as "Spock" (and it could have gone the other way VERY easily.)

I think it's more that they already have a lot on the plate and in the pipe - and make no mistake that they probably see the fact they got Michelle Yeoh to agree to headline a series will expand Star trek fandom globally, and expose it to people who wouldn't look at a Star Trek series otherwise. So yeah, it's not like they're thinking a "Pike" project would be better (business wise) then Patrick Stewart reprising Jean Luc Picard (which was really fast-tracked for multiple reasons, including Mr. Stewart's age); or a new an different Star trek series headlined by a well known, worldwide action film star who has a large following internationally.

I also don't think any of the above kills the chance for a "Pike/Spock" related project (beyond the 'Short Trek' we now know about - which in itself was probably concepted and executed BECAUSE of Star Trek fan response to "Pike" and "Spock" as portrayed by Anson Mount and Ethan Peck. CBS is already spending (and risking) a lot of money with what's in the pipe moving toward completion; and I don't fault them for waiting a bit to see how the new offerings are received before committing to even more risk and financial expenditure.

TNG was on the air for 4 seasons before they even thought of doing another concurrent Star Trek series. Now, granted the situation for streaming (with less episodes per season) is very different, but again CBS went big in getting both Michelle Yeoh to agree to headline a series; and also to get Patrick Stewart to reprise his iconic Star trek role <----- And I doubt either one came cheap, or that CBS will suddenly skimp on production values here; so yeah, they don't have a lot of cash that isn't already committed to do a fourth Live Action series as yet.

I still think it's possible they could decide to do something more with Mount's "Pike" and Peck's "Spock" down the line, including it being the fourth streaming live action CBSAA Star Trek series at some point; but, time will tell.

I think it’s possible that if these Short Treks are popular and fans respond to them, then maybe CBS will consider a Pike series as a viable option.

It would have the same canon issues that Discovery had which is why it’s been sent into the future.

I think Peck, Mount and Romijn are CBS’s full house In their hand, combined with the end of Kelvin movies and the departure of Bad Robot to work with Universal on future movies.

I do wonder if in the longer run CBS will decide to do something in between Short Treks and a full series.

One-off episodes every so often would be a good thing and tide fans over. One of the best things about it is I think you might be able to justify the cost of location shooting in all sorts of odd locations in that case.

TV movies could be fun. Just single stories that don’t really connect to a larger arc. It could be fun to show Kirk and Spock meet for the first time, not a whole story but as an epilogue.

I'd take a few one off TV/streaming released movies. A limited series could be cool too. Doing a 6 to 8 episode run could be a good way to get Anson Mount back to play Pike for a bit more since he wasn't interested in doing the really long shooting schedule a full season that a show like Discovery required.

I wouldn't object to a new Kirk series set during TOS. Maybe show the fourth and fifth years of the five year mission. Keep the general aesthetic of Discovery though and avoid the more problematic elements of TOS.

Yikes. That sounds like a endless amount of complaining and scrutiny. They would have to recast all the characters again and then you have the endless comparisons and contrasting of the two shows.. Kirk and crew had their day with the show and movies. Expanding on those characters should be kept to the books which they are doing now with titles like The Captain's Oath.
