Peacock's Brave New World

Tuvix5675

Commander
Red Shirt
I'm kind of surprised a thread on this doesn't already exist. I started watching this. The first two episodes are free w/o a subscription to Peacock, but 4.99 a month if you get the sub. I somehow got 3 months free. It is an original series based on Aldous Huxley's novel about a future totalitarian society where there is no privacy or monogamy and everyone is on drugs. I haven't read the book, so I'm not sure how faithful the series is or if liberties have been taken. But there seems to be overtones to Westworld. A recreational world called Savage Land exists where people from new London travel to visit and watch how people used to live. Savage Land is like Westworld except the people are real and from the lower classes. All the old vices still exist in Savage Land. Anyhow, the Administrator from new London, Bernard travels there with his guest, Lenina just as an uprising (similar to Westworld) is underway. They meet John (Alden Ehrenreich) who is part of the conspirators plot to stage an uprising, but ends up turning on them to help Bernard and Lenina. I don't want to give away too much more, but the story seems to follow the hero's journey with John as the hero. Joseph Morgan (The Originals) makes a brief appearance.

I watched the entire season. I liked the world building. It does make you think about how a society should work. There is a nice story arc from start to end. The ending is pretty interesting too. I am not sure it needed quite so much gratuitous sex and nudity, with the contant orgy scenes though.

Speaking of sex, I did really like
when John and Lenina have sex. It's a really passionate scene. Well done!

Wow, I'm surprised at how little attention this is getting, I had to search to find this thread!

I'm enjoying it - and Jessica Brown Findlay is always worth watching ;) - but I have never read the novel so can't say as to its quality as an adaptation.

I did watch the miniseries in the 80s/early 90s, but all I remember from it is the scene where kids press the button sending bodies to be cremated.
