Paula Abdul quits American Idol

Fox has released that there will be a guest judge each week. The first two are:

1.) Katy Perry
2.) Victoria Beckham
 
9:56 am: Rice addresses the Abdul situation head-on. “Paula will not be returning to Idol,” he says. “It’s very saddening for us.” He goes on to break down what exactly happened: They offered her a “substantial raise” to return and she turned it down. As a result guest judges — including Katy Perry and Victoria Beckham — will fill the void during the early audition rounds. “Between now and January we will come up with a more permanent solution… [and find] a replacement for Paula. We’re very sad she’s not coming back.” He concedes that the new season will now have ”a different dynamic and energy…. But there’s also something exciting about that.”
9:59 am: Any chance Abdul might change her mind? “We have concluded our negotiations and Paula has announced that she is not [returning].”
10:04 am: The four-judge format will continue on Idol.

I think this is the death knell for the show. The first hit came with slight decline in ratings which prompted putting a forth judge on the show. I don't know how the ratings were last year, but the chemistry and arguments among Paula-Randy-Simon were an essential part of the show. Kara is attractive and a competent judge, but she doesn't have much chemistry with Randy or Simon. Part of the fun of the show was trying to decipher what Paula was saying and watching Simon's reaction.

I don't blame her for going for what she thought she was worth. I think if AI was willing to pay Ryan Seacrest all that money, for doing just about nothing, why not pay Paula? Her fame helped launch the show.

I don't think the show will collapse all of a sudden, but I think there will be an erosion beginning next season that will continue to increase. Perhaps Paula jumping ship before it sinks is not a bad move.

All for the good, because I want the Pop Idol franchise to die, period. Hopefully, this is the first cancerous cell that will kill the body completely.:)
 
They should have given her Seacrests contract instead of giving it to him. He pretty much is worthless and adds nothing to the show.

I didnt think she liked that new chick too much, perhaps thought she was stealing her thunder and maybe that played a roll in her quitting also.

I like Paula. I've always had a crush on her.

I only watch the show during the audition weeks anyway to laugh at all the folks who cant sing.
 
They need to get rid of Ryan

I liked the host they had in the first season, beside Ryan, they should go back to that format
 
Why not take this opportunity to completely overhaul the series. New judge panel, new host, allow braoder age range of contestants, allow groups and change that annoying opening title sequence.

Why do they need to replace Paula? Three judges are enough, IMO, like it was before. Having four just cut down on the comment time for all the judges. Simon, Kara, Randy. Period.
 
Victoria Beckham? What does she know about music? The only people who make this show are the bad singers who audition. Simon aint even funny no more. My buddies who watch it with me make better comments about them than he does. This show needs to end.

No one likes Kara, if Paula wasn't playing hardball I think Kara would have been dumped.

So they are looking for a replacement for Paula and Kara.

However in 2011 it will be the 10th season, that should be the last. I'm a fan of the show and stick by it, but after watching "So you think you can dance?" this summer I realized that none of the judges, not even Simon, are meaningful.
 
Victoria Beckham, back in her Spice Girls days, barely even sang. LOL. She was quite obviously the one of the five who did the least! She mostly posed in little Gucci dresses. ;) Mel C had the most recognizable voice on her--the edgy one. Geri and Emma did most of the harmonizing. Mel B did the more R&B-like interruptive parts. Victoria? Not exactly prominent.

I was in 5th grade when Spice World came out. You bet your platforms I saw it in the theater. LMAO. I can even tell you what I was wearing that day (my friend Frani and I were wearing my neon green and purple rain jackets--that was the '90s I remember--a lot of neon). Funny thing, I didn't really like the Spice Girls until things that were a lot worse came out in the '00s, then they kind of got a nostalgic gleam. Something approaching singing still happened occasionally in '90s music.

Well, I have watched about 2 episodes ever of American Idol--I usually watch to see them bastardize and mutilate Elvis songs on Elvis night, and I can't say I would be sad to see it die. Finally.

They said that Paula turned down Idol because they only offered her 4 million to continue with the show on ET tonight.
 
^ Well, in comparison to her peers, yeah, that's more of a slap in the face. Look at what Simon's getting. I can sum up all of his judgments in 5 different phrases!

This is why I hate to smany stars, actors, and rich people.

If I was offered 4 million dollars to work with a group of people I knew were making far more than me, and I felt I was better than I'd still take the job.

Why?

Because it's 4 million fucking dollars!
