does'nt this movie remind you of live action american dad ?
paul Is basicaly rodger and the big guy is stan before he got married .

so I thought we could discus what you think of the movie and if you're going to see it . I know I am it looks funny and finaly original .

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::rofl::rofl::rofl:

If it reminds you of "American Dad", why would you say it looks original?

As for seeing the movie, it's not my cup 'o' tea.

I've never seen American Dad, but thought Paul was a fun film. (Not Pegg and Frosts' best though). There's a few in-jokes too:)

I haven't watched 'American Dad' in ages, so there might be something recent I missed, but wouldn't...

Jason Bateman's special agent character who is Paul's best friend and helped him escape
... be much more comparable to Stan than Nick Frost's character, which is whom I assume you are referring to with the "big guy" comment? But yes, I can definitely see the live-action 'American Dad' comparison in this movie. Paul and Roger have much in common.

It's silly fluff, but I found it to be an enjoyable movie. It's always good to get more of Pegg and Frost together, though I agree it's not as good as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead.

this is going in my permenant physical blu ray dvd collection . I thought it was funny as all out . and your right it's no shaun of the dead . you realy need to check out american dad on cartoon network or tbs in the afternoon.

Paul has Simon Pegg in it, American Dad doesn't. Based on that alone, I know that Paul is 100 times better, haha. I'm very excited to see this movie.... Shaun of the Dead was pretty mediocre in my opinion, but I've loved Pegg's other movies.

what are you nuts shaun of the dead is a great movie ?! or are you not a fan of HORROR ? and has anyone seen " spaced "?

Okay then you need to watch " spaced the tv series " fantastic show lot popculture refences . espically if you liked " hot fuzz " which was funny.

Boy, all you needed to say was 'Directed by Edgar Wright.' I'll definitely be checking that out.

Well that's the most important quality right there, yessiree. Forget all that "creativity" crap, pop culture references are where it's at.

Using pop-culture references as a source of comedy in and of itself isn't the problem, it's using them and then not bothering to add an unexpected and humorous twist, or not making the audience think about it from an alternative perspective that's lazy.

SNL and other comedy series are full of pop-culture references, but even in its worst skits it's usually an improvement upon those horrible Friedberg and Seltzer movies that barely even try to do anything new or creative or funny with the material. Family Guy hovers somewhere in the middle between the two. It's usually a huge improvement on the '_____ Movie' phenomenon IMO, but sometimes they're extremely lazy as well and offer nothing more than the reference alone (ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty).
