Paul McGillion's role

Procutus

Has it been 100% confirmed yet that McGillion really does have a role of some sorts, or is it still just in the rumor stage? I'm honestly surprised that there's been no word as to what character or role he might be playing.

I just checked IMDB, which has been updated to reflect the May 8, 2009 release and Paul is listed in the cast, but with no attached role.

I still think it's a shame that he didn't end up being Scotty. I'm not familiar with Pegg's work, but I think that Paul would've been the perfect choice.

He is in it, but there is no word on what he's doing yet. There was an interview a while back where he even said he got to work with Pine a little bit.

Pegg will crash & burn in the role and McGillion will get the role in the next flick. If I think this hard enough, it WILL happen! :D

I'm upset that McGillion didn't get the Scotty role either, but the part going to Pegg instead kind of lessens the blow for me. I thought McGillion was perfect for it, but I'm anxious to see how Pegg does.

Hmm, looks like McG might be playing Sam Kirk then? (Jim's brother)

Don't be silly.

Sam has to be played by Pine in a fake moustache, and photographed pretty much from behind with only a small portion of his face visible. :p

And if it's NOT done that way then it's in a full fledged REBOOT!!! The horror!! Must boycott the movie!!

Paul would of been perfect for Scotty. Looks much more like Jimmy Doohan and is Scottish on top of it! Pegg was just a more known and maybe popular choice to go with. But I'm glad Paul M. still got a little part in the movie.

Like many others aove, I think McG was the perfect person for the part. In fact, while I like Pegg and I find his work much to my liking I cannot yet imagine him in the role of Scotty and I don't know why.

I will honestly say that I had never heard of any of the people they cast for the big 7 except for Pegg, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't questioning that call. But, I'm sure he can pull it off. Still would have loved McGillion in it though :)

Um, if I'm not mistaken, McGillion was actually born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in his youth. His accent may not be entirely natural, but it's probably a lot less "made up" than James Doohan's was.

The timelines will be so altered Pegg's Scotty will morph to Mcgillion

He could be like John Barrowman (who was also born in Scotland and moved to the US when he was young) where he might still have a hint of his Scottish accent.

Paul is Scottish by Birth and Parentage, Paul was born in Paisley, Scotland which is west-south-west of Glasgow but emigrated with his family to Canada at the age of 2. When Paul was 11 the family moved back to Scotland for three years while his father worked on the Shetland Oil Rigs.

I don't care if he's from Kathmandu as long as he looks the part and can fake an adequate accent (as much as Doohan ever did, wasn't Doohan's ancestry Irish anyway?)
