Patrick Flueger (The 4400) for young James T. Kirk!

I always thought this guy bore a striking resemblence to the actor who played Trip on ENT.

Right looks, especially in profile; I've liked him in what little I've seen of The 4400, but from what I've seen of the character, it doesn't seem like a particularly challenging role where he can show off his talent, so I'd say that's still an unknown factor.

He looks VERY young, tho - but makeup and acting can make him seem older - anyway, how about a guarded "yes" pending someone digging up a better candidate?

I could see him in the role, but I don't think he is the best choice because of his age, though he vaguely looks like Kirk.

FYI I thought Brandon Routh was awesome. There wasnt anyone else in Hollywood that would have worked in the role.

Poppycock!

Routh was chosen by Singer because he looked like Reeves. Those were the wrong criteria, and while he did a passing job, there are very likely tons of unknowns and a good number of known stars who could've done better as Clark Kent AND Superman.

I vote for this guy:

Yeah, he's probably too old, but he's got that Shatner/Kirk "thing" going.

Umm like who??

I cant think of one known star that has the visual look/height/build to pull it off.

The great thing about Routh is he has a look that can be made down to look like a tall lanky Clark and made up to look like a heroic Superman. The duality was believeable for the first time.

Yeah its too bad this film wasnt made when he was alot younger; he would have been recent for a reboot.

But yes, too old for what theyre looking for.

Looking at Fillion and his weird nose, it struck me - he could have been Spock. That wouldn't have been an improvement over Quinto, but hey, interesting and unexpected. But for Kirk, I just don't see it.

And force him to cover up all that natural burning charisma and that winning smile? The hell with that.

I honestly don't see the resemblence to Shatner. He actually looks more like a clone of Matt Damon gone wrong. And those lips!

As much as I like Nathan Fillion, I can't see him in any of the TOS Enterprise main roles with the possible exception of Captain Pike (and that might be a stretch.) I'll always think Mal Reynolds when I see Fillion.

Having said, that, I'd be very happy to see him in a new role, perhaps as captain of another ship. That's pretty unlikely, I admit.

Cover up his charisma? Spock's my favorite fictional character of all time! He has plenty of charisma, it just takes a talented actor to bring it out and I guess the audience must also have the perceptiveness to see it, tho considering Spock's popularity, I've never thought most people were incapable of seeing it.

The bad actors are the ones who play Vulcans woodenly and boringly. I'm a big advocate of casting actors against type - it would be boring to see Fillion relegated to some Mal Reynolds-ish role when we could give him a totally opposite sort of role and see if he has the acting chops to handle it. Forget Kirk or Han Solo, his next gig should be something more like Spock or maybe a villain (didn't he origianlly play a villanous character in Buffy?)

I have enough faith in the guy that I'd be willing to give him a chance. If he's a good actor, he should be able to play anything and impress the hell out of us, assuming the writers give him a decent character in the first place, and with Spock, that's already a given.

He played a villain in the last season, after Firefly was canceled.

Fillion's charisma is a different kind from Nimoy's, and I say this having met both of them. Not saying he couldn't do it, but Fillion has almost an electricity to him, an aura that energizes the room, that draws your attention to him and makes you instantly want to be his friend. Nimoy feels more enigmatic and introverted in comparison.

As much as I like Flueger on The 4400 I've got to admit that he really doesn't look anything like Kirk. I don't think it would work.
