Paterson Joseph - black actor - tipped as Tennant's replacement

I think all of those actors look interesting. I don't know much about Paterson Joseph, but he looks engaging. I make no apologies for liking Sean Pertwee, but I'm not sure how he'd carry off the Doctor. I think he's a terrific actor, though. :)

You can be sure: there's no way they'd introduce the eleventh Doctor and have him play a substantial story role fully a year ahead of his actual arrival. There'd be no better chance to undermine Tennant's final year and kill the enthusiasm for a new lead actor.

On the other hand, that makes it the *perfect* twist! Everyone would be guessing, it's NOT the Doctor. I don't think it would kill enthusiasm at all. Not if he played the role well. I'm not familiar with the guy so have no opinion on him.

Mr Awe

The producers and the BBC are going to want people to approach series five saying "There's a new Doctor, I wonder what he'll be like," not "There's a new Doctor, except he's not really new because we saw him in action fifteen months ago." The best performance in the world wouldn't be worth jumping the gun like that. Also, if they wanted to trick people into thinking he's not a future Doctor and then pull a plot twist, the promotional material now would be saying he was an impostor, rather than playing it cagily as it has.

^ we saw TEN in a CiN mini before we saw him in The Christmas Invasion, and still people watched in there millions

oh come on Wamdue it was like 2 minutes of David Tennant hopping...if anything it almost put me off

Oh, you mean the mini that was on three WEEKS before The Christmas Invasion instead of ~ 1.3 years between "The Next Doctor" and Series 5?

And after Eccleston had left to boot. If they'd aired the CiN sketch in the middle of series one, and if it had been more than five minutes of talking in the TARDIS, there might be a comparison.

I just wonder, will the regeneration be as much fun, if we already know which actor will come out of it.

^ We knew last time.
so if we know what is so wrong with the character appearing on screen before the regeneration?

Well, you have to wonder if we're supposed to suspend disbelief that Roderick looks the same, or that the Doctor thought "Roderick" was handsome subconsciously, or he consciously chose this aspect, or that it was a complete accident or that he always assumes the appearance of a visage he is familiar with.

I must watch the Androids of Tara sometime to see Princess Astrid in action.

The Doctor and Roderick never actually met. He was the one who was playing Rose in the Weakest Link, and later bitching and moaning to Jack about how he didn't want to have to fight the Daleks. So I think it'd just be a coincidence.

Because there's a big difference between knowing who the next actor is going to be and having seen him play the role in a full Christmas special. More to the point, they really can't avoid having news of the next actor leak; they can avoid having his character appear a year ahead of time.

im not saying they shouldnt cast a guy who has been on the show before, however I would rather they didnt, im just disappointed that so many of the names in the press are of actors who have already been in the show.

Leaving aside the fact that there's already an 11th Doctor releated thread, why mention his colour at all? You wouldn't say David Tennant - White Actor - Is Leaving The Series, would you?

Oh give me a FREAKIN FRAKKIN FRUKKIN break.

If the above quote offended you, I'd say you should stay off the internets all together.

Sick to fucking death of namby pamby PC cry babies. Run home to mummy before I tie you to a chair and force you to watch a "Love Thy Neighbour"(HEY BLACK SAMBO!!!)and Alf Garnet marathon back to back.

And PS - before you resort to the usual PC default cry of "RACIST!!!1!", check my sig. I am all for a BLACK man leading the free world for the next eight yeras. God knows stupid old white men have had a fair chance at fucking it up, at least let's make it even and see if somebody else can do better!

1) No one called you a racist. Calm the fuck down.

2) Looks to me like StCoop's point wasn't to accuse you of anything, but to try to prompt you to re-consider why you made the choice that you did. It's a perfectly valid point: You wouldn't make note of a white actor's ethnicity in the subject heading, so why would you for a black actor?

3) You hurt your case about being non-racist when you use phrases like "Sambo" and rant about people being too PC. No one asked for PC. They asked you to consider your own possible ethnocentricities.

By this point, 45 years on, with very few exceptions, the only "local" actors who have not been in Doctor Who are either shite or really really expensive.

edit.

I was thinking environmentally, after a few hundred thousand years indoors... Which generationally speaking isn't that long if gallifreyans do live for a few thousand years each and change and then there's the question of "how" they reproduce that natural selection plays any part, that being as they are they might have chose to cease "evolving" ... Exactly how pigmentaed are we expecting these people to be unless it's by choice?

We have seen "black" Timelords before.

He's good as Johnson in Peep Show, but now I keep thinking about David Mitchell as a sarcastic, angry Doctor who hates being a Time Lord and can't be bothered helping anyone.

Really?

I think he'd be fabulous as a horny Doctor on the make after anything pretty in a dress.

That Comment about being Ginger in the first Christmas adventure? that was also a question of random pigmentation... Although there is some question in my mind about the Biodata extracts in the... their bodies were Predetermined?

Althoguh the Timelords tried to make 2 pick what three would look like and then just chose themselves... One of Romana's potential regenerations from Destiny of the Daleks was 4 feet tall with skin the colour of blue steel, and another, because i have a grainy print on my computer and the colours are all over the place and make up back then was an ich thick if it was... the really Tall one, if she wasn't black then she was certainly arabic or mediteranian.

I wonder if I should be taking bets on how many of these threads there are going to be between now and the official BBC announcement?

It might take some getting used to, but I could live with Paterson as the Doctor. I really enjoyed him in Jekyll. Considerign we've already seen a black Timelord in The Sound of Drums, I suppose its not too outlandish a notion.

Yeah, especially if they give him a Peep Show style voiceover...

"Oh God why did I invite Sharon into the TARDIS? Does she fancy me? I don't know, do I fancy her...not really, but I suppose if it comes down to it I'd do her, I mean it isn't like I get a lot of action anymore. I just thought someone from the 21st Century would have more to talk about, wish I'd realised she was a bloody chav, I can't keep taking the TARDIS to red carpet events and using the psychic paper so she can meet George Clooney. Oh why oh why didn't I take Ulella the cave girl? Ok we didn't have a lot to talk about but she was hot, and she definitely fancied me. I wonder if I can get the Cybermen to kill Sharon for me...that worked last time...'

'What ya thinking about Doctor?'

'Oh, nothing...'
