"Passengers" Sci-fi romance pic stars Keanu Reeves

Doesn't seem that likely to me. 90 years is a long time to plan for. I would assume that these people all signed agreements saying that they understood the risks and if things go wrong, that's too bad. You have to assume with a mission like this that they wouldn't do it unless they were sure it would succeed as intended.

Maybe they have Star Trek type technology, replicators or something. You'd only need one replicator to provide for two people.

Yes, I actually made that comment earlier.

Assuming 3 meals a day for 365.25 days a year that's food for 1100 people to support one person for one year.
You're right.

Assuming that it's a first colony ship which has to have supplies that last for decades anyway makes more sense.

Or this will turn into a horror movie when they have to resort to eating other passengers.
You know it's funny how almost the entire discussion turned to one of the 3 survival needs: food.
Look this ain't Soylent Green (1973) that film is already being remade or really a sequel : Soylent Green (2012)

Um, this is supposed to be Scifi romance movie according to the Variety headline: Sci-fi romance pic star Keanu Reeves

something tells me the food requirement will take all of 5 minutes of actual screentime to sort out...
To me the premise almost sounds like
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) meets Moon (2009) via the sexual tension of "Defying Gravity" (2009).

Variety said:
a sci-fi romancer he described as "a love story set on a spaceship."
So...unless they go for romantic comedy laughs then it will be a straight up romance movie like The Bridges of Madison County (1995) but set on a space ship that will probably never get to its destination in the 90 or 120 minutes. Maybe if we're lucky there will be an emergency requiring a spacewalk in a spacesuit otherwise the whole thing takes place within the ship like a ship-set episode of TV Trek.

He's described as a creep. I'd expect it to not be much of a romantic comedy, or at least a dark one. Waking someone up you find attractive so she can spend the rest of her life alone with you - and she didn't have a choice in the matter - is not exactly meet cute.

Well what the heck is the marketing department going to do?
Market it as a romance movie or as a psychological thriller? Pick one as scifi is generally a smaller audience [no not the Sci-fi Action genre].

Don't look at me. They'll think of something, I'm sure.

Oh, we'll get to that eventually. But it seems generally accepted the guy is a DB for doing such a thing.

" Wow that felt good. A nice 100-year sleep! So are we there?!"
"Whoa. Hey, whoa. I'm like the guy that woke you up, dude. So, I woke you up 'cause I was awake and, whoa, I was lonely, so I thought we could screw and stuff."
".... Are you fucking with me? You've sentenced me to a life of boredom and sure death in space because you wanted to get your jollies? What made you think I'd go along with that?"
".... Because you're, like, hot. Whoa."

If I were the woman, I'd be pissed off.

That sounds like a more interesting movie. She stalks him around the spaceship, determined to shove him out the nearest convenient airlock for condemning her to live out her life on some stupid fucking spaceship with a moron. :rommie:

Hmm! Maybe this is going to be a more interesting movie than I first assumed.

If he's really a creep he'll just make it seem like whatever went wrong with his is what happened to hers and that it was destiny that they be together.

Oh! Then there'll be the dramatic moment where he's so in love with her he just has to confess how she woke up!

No kidding. That sounds like a horrible thing to do to another person.

"Hey, I was bored so I figured you'd like to live a meek, isolated existence with me. You weren't planning on doing anything with the rest of your life, right?"

After having read the script, she'll be happy he woke her up. As the movie progresses you'll find out why. Apparently the plan was supposed to go like this;

Crew awakens two months prior to landing and passengers are to be waken one month prior to landing. I'm not sure how the food is supposed to be distributed but it seems the two of the protagonists were very much comfortable with "ship life".

It would be more fun if she were angry and trying to kill him. If they're just hanging around on the ship, then what's the plot?
