Man, that was a busy day! Thanks! Do you know when they stopped using the electric violin version? (I kid! I KID!)

Hey, today is the 50th anniversary of recording The Naked TIme. Parts of it are a favorite score of mine (the Big Go) parts of it aren't (there's a lot of "wandering around" music). I admit I don't listen to this score as much as it warrants.

Can you believe that with a week before the show airs they only have three scores in the can? (Not counting Where No Man Has Gone Before.)

Next up is Mudd's Women on Sept 7.

I know episodes dates and music. If anyone has any other important "50's" please chime in!

I don't know what everyone else in the production was doing 50 years ago (probably sweating bullets). But Fred Steiner was recording Mudd's Women! One of my favorite scores for one of my least favorite episodes.

I was tempted to watch "The Man Trap" last night, when I found out in another post that it was the Canadian airdate anniversary. Decided to stick to my all-American guns, though.

I'm going to start The Man Trap at exactly 8:30PM tomorrow night, and will drink a toast to Gene, Leonard, Dee, Jimmy, Majel, Grace Lee, and everyone else from the Trek family that is no longer with us to enjoy this moment.

In honor of the 50th Anniversary, I made a list of Trek stuff to watch, starting on monday (two days ago) and ending on Sunday, in (mostly) no particular order:

TOS: Mirror Mirror, The Man Trap (I'm watching this one on the 8th)
TAS: More Tribble, More Troubles
TNG: The Best of Both Worlds Parts 1 and 2
DS9: Duet, The Visitor
VOY: Death Wish, Living Witness
ENT: A Mirror Darkly Parts 1 and 2

TOS Movie: The Final Frontier (with commentary by Mike Okuda et.al)
TNG Movie: First Contact
Reboot Movie: Into Darkness

So that's two episodes a day for five of the days, and three movies sometime during the week. So far, I've watched Death Wish, Duet, The Best of Both Worlds Parts 1 and 2, Mirror Mirror and The Visitor. Tomorrow will be The Man Trap, and probably one of the movies. I might also add extra episodes if I feel like it.

Put on my Enterprise NCC - 1701 t-shirt, played all four original series themes, played the Michael Giacchino end titles to Star Trek 2009.

Now I'm listening to the Mission Log episode for The Man Trap. (Do you listen to Mission Log? You should.) Heh. They're talking about how James Kirk isn't the horn dog his legend has made him out to be. Surprise surprise.

I'm going to put a party hat on the Enterprise I have at my office.

Tonight, at 8:30 EST, I will be watching The Man Trap. Transferred from laserdisc with In Color peacock and period commercials inserted, along with the network bumpers (thank you YouTube!). While they aren't from the actual night of broadcast, they will suffice to give me the closest feeling of being there as possible. I also restored the electric violin theme to the opening and closing credits. I just wish I still had an old tube set...

If we're going by first air date in your country of origin, I'll have to wait until the 12th of July 2019 to celebrate the 50th!

I was thinking, what advertisements were generally showed during TOS?
Did the show have any products that liked to be linked with it?
Some of the early episodes almost have a product placement of coffee.
Would it have been the same adverts across America on NBC or did it vary by region ?

I will watch "The Man Trap" which is one of my favorite TOS episodes and I will raise a toast with a little Jack Daniels whiskey!

That wasn't product placement, that was just people drinking coffee... it's not like Kirk took a sip then looked directly into the camera and said, "Mmm, that <insert popular 1960s brand of coffee> hits the spot!"

Mind you, until a couple of years ago the UK had very strict rules against product placement on television. On the UK version of Deal Or No Deal, the contestant often had a cup of tea on their podium, in a plain white mug. When the rules were changed to allow product placement, they digitally placed the logo of a popular brand of tea onto the mugs... imagine if they did that with Star Trek? Kirk is suddenly drinking Nescafe or Red Mountain coffee...

I remember when I building a 3d model of the briefing room. I realized those stupid styrofoam / plastic / whatever cups were EVERYWHERE!

Damn, I hate the electric violin theme but I wish I had it for the Man Trap tonight. Wait, if it's not on the Remastered version, and it's not on the original FX version, does that mean it's not on the blu-rays at all! Foul!

I've been having random episodes play in the background today. I wanted to take my replaced Enterprise quadcopter outside to fly but it's raining with thunderstorms on the way. Will probably try and watch my replacement TWOK blue ray this afternoon /tonight but on the other hand a new episode of Mr. Robot is on the PVR and that's one of those shows that gets spoiled online if you don't watch it quick enough....

RCA Victor, yeah I expected that. Pepsi Cola, meh, I prefer ginger ale. But Geritol?! I've always associated that inseparably with "The Lawrence Welk Show"! I grew to hate that item because that meant my grandmother was taking over the set at 7 PM Saturdays, the same time a competing channel was airing various Gerry Anderson series (in the early to mid 70s). The notion it helped sponsor one of my favorite series gives me conflicting emotions!
