Paramount discontinued releasing the Movies on Special Edition DVDs?

Anyone here also not able to find those 2 disc dvds in stores?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/series/248/ref=pd_serl_dvd?ie=UTF8&edition=dvd

I just did a search "Star Trek Movies" on Amazon and saw that all the two disc special editions what were released on dvd a few years back all say "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer". I already have the SE of the movies that I want but I had planned to get some for a friend mostly for the second discs. Why did Paramount stopping make the SEs especially with the new movie being released? This is very annoying for those that are only able to buy dvds at stores.

I've no idea. I had to replace Insurrection and Final Frontier a few weeks ago, and the prices were doubled. What was $7 new became $14. Star Trek V went from $11 to $21 new, and all from third party vendors.

I think that price increase is what happens when those DVDs are about to become rare because they're not being made anymore, so once the ones left in stores are gone, the only place you'll be able to find them is online in places like E-bay. That means you better grab them while you can! I'm glad I got the ones I wanted when they were fairly new.

I don't think I'll ever buy another release of those movies. They're more than enough for me as they are. Even if they're ancient compared to Blu Ray, I'm still impressed with the picture quality on Star Trek II, IV, and 8 (the ones I own). They're all 80s and 90s movies that the picture quality makes look like they came out in the 2000s, and the special features are great.

Have you considered that they planned the warehouses be emptied about now, with increased interest in the film series?

No DVD is available forever. The retail stores demand new product, not stuff in old, dusty, dated packaging that sits on shelves for months and then years. All of the ST movies are being repackaged over the next few months. A Blu-Ray set is already out, IIRC. You can expect there'll be new versions of the SE twin-disk sets eventually. Maybe not identical releases to previously. The bonus scenes may change, and the packaging will be revamped.

It's all a part of the great circle of DVD life. DVD's are born, they live, and then they die.. and then are released as special editions!

At least Paramount doesn't have the "Disney Vault," which I consider to be the height of rat bastardry.

Yeah, the Disney Vault... LOL!!

Oh yeah. Oh yeah. For that, I hate Disney.

A review of Star Trek: Insurrection Special Collector's Edition
mentions:
All extras are presented in letterboxed full-screen instead of anamorphic 16:9

Hopefully they will have them in standard-definition anamorphic 16:9 on the Blu-rays and any future DVD release.

Not being a massive Disney fan, I had to Google that.

They are surely more evil than Enron.

Count me in - I hate Disney, too. Walt is spinning in his grave, or cryogenic unit.

I was thrilled the next Narnia film won't be made by the studio: they totally mucked up "Prince Caspian." The "Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe" was magnificent, but the cheapo 1990 BBC version is a better "Caspian" and sticks to the book!

Don't get me going on "Hannah Montana," "Wizards Of Waverly Place" and all their other idiotic shows with brain dead dads and snotty kids you want to hurl across a room.

Re: Paramount discontinued releasing the Movies on Special Edition DVD

The BBC version rocked in all respects. Anything that's got Big Mick, Warwick Davis, a young Sam West, and Lord Tom of Baker must be awesome.

Re: Paramount discontinued releasing the Movies on Special Edition DVD

They are putting out the II-IV set on DVD as well as Blu-Ray, and I'm sure the other eight movies are not far behind.

As for the Disney Vault, the concept makes perfect business sense. They have a library of about 50 animated features. Rotating which ones are available increases sales of the less renowned films and builds up anticipation for the most beloved classics. There's also shelf space and the budgets of the customers to consider. Most people will not buy or rebuy that many movies at one time. Bond is already pushing it with over 20 films.
