Paradise Syndrome....big goof in remastered version?

I was looking at my old tape of "The Paradise Syndrome" from SciFi Channel's "Special Edition" of Star Trek.

When the asteriod is nearing the planet, and Miramanee tells Kirk he's got to save them, she says 'You have to go to the temple and make the blue flame come out'.

Later, when Kirk and Spock get the temple's equipment going, it generates a deflector beam that's blue in color.

Something about that began gnawing at me, and I got my recording of the TOSR version of the episode, and looked at the two scenes, the deflector shot first.

The deflector beam coming from the temple is red and yellow.

I rolled back to the earlier scene, and even the syndication/cut version has Miramanee telling Kirk he's got to 'make the BLUE flame come out'.

I wonder if anyone should tell them they goofed on the color of the planet's deflector beam? ;)

Yeah, this goof was discussed heavily on this board at the time. The best explanation I heard was that the deflector had been in disrepair for generations (it worked, but not as well as before) and what should have been a strong red and yellow beam actually came out as a blue been. So for many generations the beam came out blue, and people thought it was suppose to be blue.

Then Spock repairs the deflector, restores it to original specifcations, and the beam is once again as strong as originaly intended, and the color is once again red and yellow.

The guys on this board can come up with an explanation for anything! Anyway, it works for me.
