A technician at a French Polynesian television station has been suspended from work after accidentally screening a porn movie he thought he was watching alone.

The incident on March 3 sparked about a dozen angry calls to the Tahiti Nui television network. General director of TNTV Haupert Ives said the technician was suspended from work without pay for a week after the mix-up.

Ives said about three minutes of the adult programme made it to air of which 52 seconds was explicit porn. "It is funny, yes, but not really to us," Ives said. The error happened about 2pm, 20 minutes after a religious programme on the channel ended.

I'd love to know what the French programme was supposed to be.

Amusing, but I'd be even more amused it if had occurred directly after -- or, better yet, interrupted -- the religious program.

Well, I suppose it had to happen to someone at some point.
Oh, it has. I seem to recall a story from last year in which one of the screens seen behind a news reader on a regular TV news broadcast was showing explicit porn.

Oops!

It's both the upside and the downside of operating in real time, with people watching: shit can happen (and will.)

No big deal to me. Though I'm sure some people would just completely freak out about such a thing happening.

Not on broadcast, but we had a pilot that once had something similar happen. Between flights on a trip, he asked if anybody wanted to see some of the video he shot on his last trip to Amsterdam. He plugged his camera into the video system and started playing the video. What he forgot was that he had pointed his camera at the hotel tv and recorded some of the porn he had ordered in his room. Much to the shock of the crew watching it, you could see the pilot on his bed masturbating to the video in the tv's reflection. Now THAT is embarrassing!

Apparently the French did this in the Middle East 10 years ago. Which led to the channel it aired on being banned and Al-Jazeera getting the spot.

If this isn't bad enough, recently the Spice channel had a satelite mix-up which caused them to accidentally broadcast a few minutes of wholesome family programming.

A few years back, I was at a WWE pay-per-view being shown at a Cineplex. When the show had ended, there was some sort of malfunction or the guy operating the satellite feed must have switched to a different signal or something because all of a sudden there was a giant movie screen showing hardcore porn! And it was on for a good couple of minutes.
