P/C: our thread is eternal

Plus "What happens on Risa, stays on Risa".

Attached and Lessons might have changed if the two had gotten together at the start of season three. Nella would have been on the Enterprise, but Picard, if he and Beverly had still been together and growing closer and closer, might have distanced himself from the Nella and not cared whether she lived or died beyond that of any other crewmember. For Attached, he might have finally worked up his courage long before to tell her his true feelings.

The Host would be another episode that changed. Same essential storyline, only no diplomatic flings and kissing "brothers" for Beverly.

Yeah, the other shipboard relationships would be doomed.

Would Picard have let her leave in Sub Rosa? Obviously she was under the influence of creepy Ronin so that wasn't her fault. Afterall, when it comes to creepy sex, no-one can hold a candle to Ronin.

^[groan]

Beverly would have been off of the ship before "Captain's Holiday," unless she resigned to be with him like she did for Ronin.

That would depend on a lot of things, I suppose. We already know that Beverly would damage her career for a man, based on the gap where she would have been wife and mommy for two years, whether that gap was intentional or in error. She also left for Ronin and Odan had some sort of reason to believe that she'd leave with him too, though I doubt that she would have, at least, not yet.

However, Beverly wouldn't do something like that casually. She has to be sure, and with Jean-Luc and commitment, there might not be enough certainty.

I think Scatta makes a very valid point here. In my opinion it is most likely that after the events of "The High Ground" Beverly Crusher would have been given the old 'heave-ho' with exactly the same type of pretty speech that Nella Darren was given at the end of "Lessons." Jean-Luc Picard personally isn't able to handle a romantic relationship with someone under his command.

This is one of the many reasons I decided to pair Picard with Vash in my fanfiction writing. Vash is a civilian, which completely avoids this whole conundrum. :)

Whoa Nellie

I prefer to think he dumped Nella because she was bossy and after a few weeks of duets he was tired of her. He tried to kill her during the mission and when that didn't work he talked her into transferring. Sure he felt a bit guilty in his quarters when it looked like she was dead, but he'd have been up and playing his flute with some other chick in no time.

Possibly 'mc' universe Picard.

 I still have the image of Picard working his way through the Enterprise orchestra with that shy 'you're a much better at this than me, show me how to hold it properly' routine.

It was an interesting line they put in "The Offspring" about Crusher being unpopular in her childhood. Maybe just a throwaway, but I wonder whether they where ever planning to do anything with that?

It potentially ties in with the childhood trauma mentioned in "The Arsenal Of Freedom"; perhaps she found it hard to relate to people in the years immediately after that. Or maybe her habit of making fun of people (referenced in "Attached") was the cause? Any thoughts?

^Well, you already covered the first thought I had, so I guess I'll start babbling and see what happens.

Seriously, though, I find that very believable. I think of everything Beverly is (forthright, independent, intelegent, prone to smirking at times she probably shouldn't, drama/classical music geek, into dancing, but uncool dancing, etc) add in the smart-alek sense of humor she was said to have had, and I can certainly see that being a disaster in adolescent situations. I wouldn't rule out her having friends, of course, but unless people kept her around because she was pretty and probably achieved a lot, I can see her not exactly being prom queen, though I'm sure she out-waltzed whoever was.

P.S. At a quick glance, your designation under your handle could be misread "Wesley's Lover." FYI

^I thought I read somewhere once that Beverly used to be very smart-alecky and rude, but after a date with some boy who she inadvertently insulted, she toned it down or something.

I apologize for my lack of specifiticity... :o

/\ That was in "Attached", yes.

Interesting suggestion that crusher would be naturally unpopular ... I sort of have the idea that introverted people tend to be unpopular, with extroverts only having difficulty making friends if they are a bit nasty.

The "Wesley Lover" tag was to tie in with the April Folls joke, but perhaps now I will change it again.

^Beverly is brash, opinionated, intelligent, and blunt. I think that she was that way when she was younger, and that while those traits may be admirable in adults or older people, in youth they are not very appreciated (speaking from experience here).

I think that the friends she had would have been people like her.

Very perceptive of you!

This is Sophia Forrester, a character from an anime series called The Last Exile, to which a friend is currently introducing me. I'm fond of her, and more to the point, I think I look quite a bit like her, so I thought that I would try an avatar.

And you all thought that I looked like Beverly, didn't you? :p

19 months have passed since you made that post, but I just wanted to thank you for recommending this series. I'm studying Japanese these days, and decided to buy an anime series to help familiarise myself with the sound of the language. Are there any other ones that you find particularly good?

You're welcome! I'm impressed to have had such an influence. :)

I have to confess that I'm not much of an anime-watcher in general. It was my ex-boyfriend who introduced me to the genre, and since we broke up I haven't really sought much out on my own. So I might not be the best person to ask for recommendations.

Having said that, you might enjoy a series called "Planetes", of which I've seen a few episodes. It's a fairly realistic look at the near-future of space exploration... specifically, at those hapless souls who work cleaning up all the space debris that we have left behind in earth orbit.

/\ Thanks again; I've made a note of it. I could start a thread asking for recommendations in the TV forum of course, but would probably get about 50 different suggestions, which wouldn't leave me much nearer to a decision.

What kind of anime are you looking for in particular? I have a lot of friends who watch anime, and I'm sure I could come back with some recommendations for you.
