P/C: our thread is eternal

In addition to ASC, there's now a group of P/Cers trying to get all the p/c fic into an archive on its own. Of course, hunting down authors and permissions will be quite a feat to undertake.

If G-Griz ;) says it's okay, then I'll post a link to the project. If not, just PM or email me.

Wonderfulpolous, your animated gif (which is quite pretty), might be able to fit here if you made it a few frames shorter, or shortened the length between frames. For instance, instead of the three ellipses falling diagonally to the bottom of the square, have just one set of ellipses in the middle. Then hopefully you can get your avatar here. :)

One of the P/C writers asked me to attempt a book cover that looked like the one from DIW, but with Picard's silhouette and Beverly's half-face. Here's my attempt.

I think it's pretty. :)

Thanks! I'll try *opens photoshop*

btw, your cover is pretty :)

G-Griz grants you his permission ...

Woohoo!

The P/C Archive can be found here. It just got up and running, so a lot of stuff is in the archiving process rather than already on the archive. I've only gotten one vic...um, volunteer who's able to put stories through the process.

Nice work on the P/C art. I just about died laughing at all of the elipses. I also thought the P/C bookcover was well done and actually looked like the reversal of the other cover.

Does anyone else have any to share? (I don't, because I tend to wind up using everything I do as an av until everyone has seen it and seen it.)

I like "G-Griz." As a bad speller, it's much easier to remember that than it is to remember that there's no "e" before the "y" in Grizzly, but that there are two "z's."

I'm planning to submit my own stories once I can figure out this... process of yours.

^Can Dr. Crusher come out of her av and declare this thread to be dead?

Of course, I know if that ever happened, being a Star Trek thread, I'd see it again in a few weeks.

If this thread is really eternal, we have to start posting more. I hereby swear to post at least once a day in this thread, unless it would be a double post.
*leaves, very satisfied with self*

Okay, how do folks think TPTB would have handled Bev's reaction if Picard had died at Wolf 359. Also, how would fan writers have handled it (cos there would surely have been a difference, no?) Do you think losing Picard that early in TNG would have led to lots of fanfiction, or would the whole P/C thing have died on the vine?

If you really, really want. But it keeps lurching back into life periodically. Maybe it's undead... :borg:

I don't think they *would* have handled it, really. She would have gotten all teary-eyed at the funeral, maybe delivered the eulogy (although I bet Riker would have gotten to do this), and then gone on with her life. Maybe they would have included some nice little touch like letting her keep his Shakespeare in her quarters. Were you really expecting long-term emotional consequences? This is TPTB that we're talking about, after all!

I doubt that the death would have daunted fanfic writers much at all. P/C was already well rolling before BOBW... plenty of fans were convinced on the evidence of S1 alone that Picard was Wesley's father. You would have gotten a monumental crop of angst, I'm sure, and then a lot of stories claiming that Picard wasn't really dead. In that sense, fanfic tends to iron out the differences between the roads taken and not taken in canon. I mean, there are probably already a lot of stories out there where Picard *did* die at Wolf 359.

You mean like they didn't handle it in Gambit?

Oh and re: submissions... just send them to me. I haven't enough minions yet to do the bulk of the work.

What is everyones favorite P/C moment?

I'm semi-new so if this has been discussed before please excuse me...but I still want to know ;)
Mine is probably that scene (i think it was the fireside) in attached, or the link in my sig.

Yeah, exactly like that.

I'll try to get around to it sometimes in the next six months...

I only said the thread was dead so that it would come back. Don't you people know that's how Star Trek works? (I was actually halfway serious, but also halfway wondering if someone would get back on topic if I said that.)

Willsbabe Great question

Naraht Agreed.

mackillian Agreed.

All I also submit that it would have been almost-touched-upon with one facial expression like her reaction to his capture in the "Chain of Command."

That is...at the moment, anyway. It's always been one of my favorites, along with the times that they've been there for each other.

Thanks! I was hoping to help keep the thread going. I haven't contributed much but I have enjoyed reading others' comments, so I guess it was partly motivated self-interest.

Some of my absolute favourite fanfic stories over the years have been "death stories" - whether they have been K/S, R/T, whatever. I was just wondering what P/Cers would feel about them, especially given that Picard dying in BOBW seemed a reasonably real possibility. It's one thing for it to be portrayed in fanfic, it's entirely another for it to "really" happen on-screen.

All I also submit that it would have been almost-touched-upon with one facial expression like her reaction to his capture in the "Chain of Command."

How frustrating! Particularly when Riker and Troi got such a great scene out of it.

They also got a great scene in Gambit. When Troi gives him what-for with "Do you think you're the only one in pain? That you have a monopoly on loss? Well, I've got news for you. We're all hurting..." Good stuff.

I have never read any fanfic, I feel so out of place or something.
Can anyone suggest one that I might enjoy?
I made a P/C banner last night, I'm planning on making a xanga layout with it, here it is (yeah, still no 100 posts...:))

Hi! Welcome to the board. I'm the Picard/Vash fan and author on the board. (Although I do actually have two P/C stories.) :)

Anyway on to your question, I believe the reigning queen of P/C fanfic would be Ke Roth with her wonderful epic work "Echoes" (190 parts if I'm not mistaken) followed by its ongoing sequel "Home." Hope this helps. :)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

I recommend Whoa Nellie's stuff. I've been reading it for years and I love it. I'm sure that other folks will recommend other stuff, too.

Nice banner, btw.

That's the scene I was thinking of *slaps forehead* I really must stop posting before breakfast!
