"How many people does it take before it becomes wrong?" -An excerpt from P/C Smutfest The Outrageous Orgy.

OK I'm done. Serious(ish) question.

In The Naked Now Bev says "It is definitely like alcohol intoxication, the same lack of good judgment... For example right now, I find you, well, extremely...extremely.."

Does that mean she doesn't fancy him? Does that mean that when sober she wouldn't go near him with a barge pole? When she says "It's more complicated" in the Attached brushoff does she really mean "You're a short scrawny bald bloke with an implausible anglo-french heritage: of course I don't want to sleep with you!"

Is this the true reason P/C never got it on?

Does that mean she doesn't fancy him? Does that mean that when sober she wouldn't go near him with a barge pole?

I took that more to mean (both as a young teenager and then later in my life as an adult) that she normally would find him extremely attractive, instead of extremely, extremely attractive. Though, that could've been tainted by the pre-teen relationship emotional descriptors "like" and "like like." You know... "Well, I like him, but I don't like like him."

...or maybe not. But was she going to end with attractive? Because she ends with "But we havn't time for that sort of thing..." so my bets are on 'attractive' not being the last word but something along the lines of starting with F ending with able and taking place on the deck right there.

Or the desk.

Ahem. Anyway, as for "It's more complicated" it doesn't have to mean

"You're a short scrawny bald bloke with an implausible anglo-french heritage: of course I don't want to sleep with you!"

It could've been code of some sort. It could've meant "Of course I'd like to clear up this ever-present nonrelationship-relationship we've had through the past seven years. But since we're going into movies after this season and you have to be free for ever exciting relationship possibilities as a leading man, we have to act like I'm entirely reticent about this entire actual relationship possibility. And we'll just ignore that in the season (and series) finale that when I find out you could die a death like your grandfather did that I go to your ready room and plant one right on your lips. Oh, and by the way, just pretend I didn't fall for your doppelganger that easily... or get jealous when Mrs. Manheim was around... or get jealous when Vash was around... or get jealous when you were involved with that stellar cartography officer... or that you didn't get jealous when I was in like with that John Doe... or when I was with that Trill...yes, maybe we should be afraid. And that thing I have to tell you? They haven't told me what it is. They said I have to wait until the movies are over, then they'll tell me and I'll tell you. As I said, more complicated than just, you know, getting it on like the adults that we are."

It's always seemed to me that the line "It is definitely like alcohol intoxication, the same lack of good judgment... For example right now, I find you, well, extremely...extremely.." coupled with the "You owe me something. You do realize that, don't you? I haven't the comfort of a husband, a man..." along with the line "Or perhaps we should be afraid." from "Attached" suggested that Beverly Crusher finds Picard attractive but is not in love with him and that in the end she would simply be using him as a replacement for Jack Crusher.

Edited to add, I see the Beverly Crusher character as too honorable and too much of a professional to use a good friend like Picard in such a manner.

Just my two cents. :)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

It occurs to me that suggesting intoxication leads to sleeping with people you don't normally find attractive; doesn't entire show me in a good light. Consider it to be completely hypothetical.

^Of course...

Re: The "extremely, extremely" Naked Now

I think she meant she found him attractive. Generally you don't unzip your uniform to reveal your *ahem* parsecs if you weren't: A) Drunk and attracted to the person, B) Drunk, horny and attracted to the person, or C) Going to get paid for it later.

Plus, Picard looked like he wanted to right there, on the desk, in the ready room.

If I could get away from it, I'd quote Bill O'Reilly's book...;)

"Oh Jean-Luc! The line was drawn here! This far, but take me further!-P/C smutfest Forced Contact

Woah Nellie Then, how do you explain the jealousy and the more-than-a-friend readyroom reaction in "All Good Things" if she only wants him and thinks of him as a friend, beyond that. For that matter, how do you explain Picard saying, "Now that we know how each of us feels..." in "Attached." I always thought that was off of something he sensed when they were linked, but didn't call her on it like she called him on it.

mackillian I laughed so hard at that "like" and "like like" stuff that I almost beat myself silly. I remember that phrase. I didn't know that everyone said it, though. I just thought the folks I went to school with did.

Valeris I must concur with your list of possible reasons for revealing one's horgons to someone who one is not in a relationship with (assuming that, like Beverly, one is not just into that). However, I think I should add "Drunk, lonely too long, and attracted to the person," which is likely Beverly's situation in "The Naked Now."

Like with mon capitane's post, I would like to point out that my addition there was purely hypothetical and not meant as a statement of personal experience.

---

All of this smut stuff is tempting me to write one. Unfortunately, the title that comes to mind is "Old, But Not Dead," so it would be set late enough that I don't know if anyone would want to read it if I did.

"Readyroom reaction"-Something to use in a future P/C smutfest.

And still do, trust me.

Oooh...forgot that one. She pretty much says she needs to get into his pants (or his desk drawers) in The Naked Now. Why they didn't is something that will make me angry for a long time...

I like the disclaimers. Very funny. And true. ;)

hello everyone...

I was home sick yesterday and I watched Attached on Spike. brought back a lot of memories, it did! I remember now how much I'd loved that episode when it first aired and how disappointed I was at the peck on the cheek and the lips. couldn't they have at least given us a real kiss? watching it all again, I realized I still feel the same way.

this relationship was done way better than R/T, IMO.

anyway, just wanted to delurke and chime in with a thumbs up to you all. carry on ;)
