Due to just joining Netflix I've recently discovered the fantastic series
"Over There".

If you are a fan of the HBO series Band Of Brothers and Generation Kill then (if your not a late comer like me) you'll enjoy Over There.

I had no idea this show aired in 2005 and was very disappointed to find out the show was canceled after the first 13 episodes.

A real shame as I've said it is some of the best programming I seen in a while.

I'm about half way through the episodes and I've already decided Over There will soon be in my DVD collection right beside Band Of Brothers, Generation Kill, Saving Private Ryan Black Hawk Down and many, many others.

It was a great show, but airing right in the middle of the most intense period of the Iraq War, it didnt really stand much of a chance in my opinion. that said, it did have a proper ending so at least you wont have to worry about any cliff hangers.

I tried to watch it, but just couldn't get into it at all, probably because it was too close to reality.

it was okay.. Generation kill was 10 times better. But it did have some nekkidness!

Yeah, GK is much better. But then again, Over There tried to address more issues. Like, women were more than just wank material for the guys.

That said, I probably could have done without that weird husband back home storyline.

Generation Kill shows a somewhat realistic look at Iraq(As close as TV/Movies can probably get). Overthere is just silly and ridiculous. I've been over there, I've done raids, cordons, checkpoints, the whole slew of combat related operations. The Army does not operate the way the show tried to make it appear, and women would never be allowed to operate like they did in the show.

But at the end of the day none of that matters if it is entertaining. Unfortunately it did not entertain me.

I've recently loved Generation Kill, but since its only 7 episodes I've been wondering whether to check this show out. Is the step down in quality too extreme to end up enjoying it?

I don't know how realistic it was but it certainly was a hard-hitting show. I got it on DVD to watch again because I enjoyed it so much. It sits next to Band Of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon and The Thin Red Line.

What I saw of it I liked, but it constantly made the mistake on focusing on inane storyline about the people back in the US. I get what they where trying to do, but I just didn't care.

I'm on the last episode of the Third disk and IMO each episode gets better than the last.

I too enjoyed Generation Kill but it was too short.

I feel like the Characters in Over There are much richer and deeper than GK.

I realize the women women wouldn't be mixed with the guys in the real deal but this is TV kids.

Besides Miss B's ass was a hellava lot nicer to look at than Rudy's
