Other Ship's Adventures

We all know that it seems like the Enterprise, whichever one, has all the fun.
It'd be funny to hear some bridge banter refering to other ship's incredible adventures once in a while:

Kirk: Say, Bones. Did you hear what happened to Captain Jones on the USS Endeavor?
Bones: Yeah! I heard his kidneys were remoned my the aliens of Renal IV and used to power their main computer!
Kirk: Good thing his science officer was able to rescue one of them!


Picard: Riker, did you hear what happened to the USS Kongo?
Riker: Oh yes! They were sent by an alien artifact back in time to fight in WWI! Thank God they got everything right or maybe the Federation and even the universe as we know it could have been obliterated!

Archer: T'pol...this report of what the NX-05 found on B-Yon-C was extraordinary!
T'Pol:Yes..an entire planet's culture based on early 21st century Hip-Hop music left there by early Earth ships' disposal systems.

they did mention tidbits about their earlier assignments on TNG and Voyager.

Well the USS Intrepid was mentioned a few times as crewed by vulcans until they discovered the huge single celled animal that ate them.

There was in TNG the mention of the USS Adelphi's disaterous first contact. There was references in the first season to that one admiral's mission aboard the USS Gettysburg that ended up in a mess the Enterprise had to fix and stuff like that.

TOS often mentioned earlier flights like the USS Horizon and the USS Archon, and made references to the 'Vulcanian expedition'

In TOS they did make reference to the fact Commodore Bob Wesley (CO of the Lexington and of the TF (Lexington, Hood, Potemkin and Excalibur (good old Captain Harris) was a fine officer and Spock regretted serving on the ship that might kill him, so he had to have done neat stuff too

But yeah would be nice to hear our 'hero' ships aren't the only ones plugging away and making all of the cool discoveries and the neat first contacts.

Trek has name-dropped probably more than a hundred different ships here and there. Surely, many of them have had exciting adventures on their own. And while the Enterprise has been mentioned in passing in DS9 and VOY, so has other ships like the Farragut, the Yellowstone, the Constellation, and the Exeter among many others...

Those would be some mighty depressing adventures, since most of those name dropping incidents revolve around ships and crews that met horrible demises.

Futurama did the same thing a lot in reference to previous delivery crews.

Actually, that's not really the case at all. Most of the other starships mentioned in Trek are simply vessels going about their business. Aside from Wolf 359 and the Dominion War, the majority of starships lost in the line of duty have been curiously enough Oberth-class vessels...

Actually, that's not really the case at all. Most of the other starships mentioned in Trek are simply vessels going about their business. Aside from Wolf 359 and the Dominion War, the majority of starships lost in the line of duty have been curiously enough Oberth-class vessels...

The ship that gloriously can be destroyed with a single torpedo at full shields while you're not actually trying to destroy it.

As for the topic, I always find this fun to think about. There's so much crazy, interesting stuff out there in Trek, and there's just no way that the main TV show ships are the only ones that encounter them. The Valkyrie came from that idea, being interested in the more 'everyship' of the fleet. And that was one of the cool things about the Dominion War to me; we got to see ships like Galaxies and Excelsiors kick ass that were "just another ship" compared to the Enterprise or the Defiant.

^^ Yeah, what I meant is not that other ship s aren't initiating first contact and exploring...but where are the other ships travelling in time? or being shrunk to the size of ants for some advanced being's amusement?

It has bothered me thatr every other starship aside from the hero ship has rather mundane and run-of-the-mill adventures. Or they get destroyed, crew killed mysteriously and so on in that order. What, the USS Albion can't stumble upon a powerful alien energy source for once? Or uncover a Romulan plot to tip the balance of power in the Alpha Quadrant? Or make contact with emissaries from a powerful civilization that know the meaning of the universe?

Let's face it: the Oberth and the Mirandas are the workhorses of Starfleet.

As for stories about the adventures of starships other than the "hero" vessels, well, that's what fanfic and fanfilms are for.

The starship that gets all the not-quite-as-interesting adventures: they meet President Millard Fillmore, they land in the alternate universe where their counterparts are rude and unhygienic, as part of a mating ritual the captain faces his first officer in a game of chess, etc.

As for the topic, I always find this fun to think about. There's so much crazy, interesting stuff out there in Trek, and there's just no way that the main TV show ships are the only ones that encounter them. This is what comes to my mind whenever somebody says Trek is "tapped out" or has "franchise fatigue". The Federation is a massive organization, and even after 40 years of shows and movies, we have seen barely a pittance of all that has happened and will happen. Show some damn imagination people!!!

I can think of a number of Mirandas we saw lost in TNG. The episodes Unnatural Selection and Night Terrors spring to mind.

Most of the onscreen ship classes have incurred some losses at some point or the other, but the Miranda-class has actually held up fairly well, with the majority of these ships lost in battle rather than during fairly routine missions.

The Oberth-class on the other hand seems to fare worse during peacetime! I believe the Oberth-class has to be Starfleet's most vulnerable/cursed design. From the Grissom, to the Tsiokovsky and the Vico, more than a fair share of of these ships have been lost during what should have been quiet scientific missions. There was also the Yosemite (whole crew killed) and the Pegasus (most of the crew killed). Additionally, there were some unnamed Oberth-class ships lost at Wolf 359 and Sector 001 as well.
